Heated Grips Install

Has anyone installed genuine BMW heated grips themselves to an R1200GS ?? Oddly mine has none (bought used).

Are they the same as all other GS models, or does the CANBUS system need special parts or cause problems (such as a software hack/reprogram to enable them ?) The switch and grips appear the same externally as other models.

Any advice warmly appreciated (pun intended !!).

I had them installed by the dealer to my bike. Apparently a software mod was required to tell the bike that the 'grips were installed'.

Maybe you could install the grips yourself, then get the garage to do the software mod?

Yes you will need the software to be reprogrammed . When I had my biked delivered it was missing heated grips. When they arived the dealer installed them ok but could not get them to turn on. It was a software probelm. Once they uploaded the new program they worked fine.
