I used the heated grips for the first time today, on the low setting, no problem but on the high setting the throttle twist grip got stiff and had to be turned off rather than self close, when i switched back to low setting after a couple of minutes everything was fine. First time I have had heated grips is this common? Bike is an `06 GS.

Ave you got a throttle lock type 'cruise control'?.
The length of the twist grip tube increases as it gets hot to the point that it loses clearance and the throttle effectively locks.

Whether you have or haven't, the cure is likely to be loosening the bar weight and retightening allowing a little more clearance

As Popell says - on my R1150GS I had to slacken off the bar end weight in winter

I had the same thing with mine. I took the bar end weight off and machines 1/32 inch off the length probllem solved.

As has been stated many times on this site, there are 2 easy and simple solutions to your problem.
The easiest is to "accidentally" drop the bike on the right hand side so that the handlebar gets a good thump on the ground.
The alternative is to loosen the 2 screws clamping the throttle assembly onto the handlebars, and move it inwards about a mm before retightening them.

There is a third way Mike, just undo the bar end weight and put a thin washer under it.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will try the washer fix first before I mess around with the throttle assembly.

Thanks again, Al.

Washer fix is the way to go, been there done that :)
