Couldn't find another thread so my question is, what will happen to my R1200gs LC enduro 2013 if I fit heated grips and throttle assembly from a 2017 r1200gs? I hope someone can advise.

if your buying 'used' grips, there is also a difference between bikes with cruse control and ones without... so you need to watch out for this also..
I fitted Oxford on my bike.. work very well indeed :)

Who said that... BMW?? :)
well, its not easy.. on the LHS, you have to cut the grip so you keep the bit that secures the LH switches, then the new heated grip just pushes onto the bar itself without the tube from the original... On the RHS you just have to remove all of the rubber so the new Oxford will slide on.
TBH, when I did this, I had a spare set just in case and kept my originals... but after a bit of messing I got it to work fine... Oxfords are great as you have 5 setting of heat with auto turn off if you don't... and the LH / RH just feels the same... My mate had a 2013 LC where the heat was poor, and I had problems on my TU with heated grips.. I wanted to go Oxford, and they work just fine.. and cost a lot less if they do go south :)

There will be a 4 year delay before anything happens. Long time to wait for the grips to get hot.. good luck with that.

The only way around it is to ride at 88 mph on cruise control.... holding a golf pitching wedge above your head, and hope for a 1.21 Gigawatts lightening strike.

That'll do it.

But others on adventurerider forum have done this and they work perfectly!
I agree and you will have no problems. BMW will tell you that there's a risk of your bike catching fire hence you should not do it.

However several people have. the new grips are brilliant

Thanks for replies I will let you know if it catches fire lol they should be arriving soon

The job is straightforward once you find the two screws to disconnect the switches to get at the screw which removes the throttle. I have only fitted one side (throttle) and have had bike running for a couple of minutes and the heated grip as heated up I couldn't test further as I may not have made it out of the shed lol. When I have been out for a long test I will report back and compare heat on both grips old and new.

just when you have 2 on.. will it pull too many amps?... I assume this is what they did??

I have only one on at the moment and I was also concerned about throttle. I ran it for 5 mins today and all seems fine including throttle I will update when I next go for a ride.

Im lazy and wanted to make sure just fitting one will work I believe some people on here said my bike will set on fire. I fitted the nn horn which works on some bikes but tripped the canbus on mine not sure why and I believe the 2017 grips are hotter?

You will be fine. A member of this parish did the same as you. BMW got quite shirty and stated the bike will catch fire not me. Lots of people have upgraded with no consequences. I had a 2013 bike but now have a 2016 bike. the grips are a fantastic improvement.

Why will 2 on make any difference?
I assume each grip has its own wiring.

Ian

The new ones get hotter. If you assume it does this by pulling more amps, will 2 of them overload the can-bus ? I don't know how they made them work better, maybe the same amps just a better heater??
