I know this works because when I first put on heated grips to my VFR 4 years ago the left hand grip was cooler than the right due to the throttle insulation. When I put the glass wool in the bar the temps evened up.

Executive summary:
RHS grip hotter due to heating element insulated by plastic throttle, LHS grip colder due to directly mounted to bar which is a better heat conductor.

Are you absolutely sure about that? May be the heat difference had something to do with that the right hand grip controls the throttle and has less of a contact (ie better isolated) with the metal than the left one?

So... You agre...??

The heat will flow into the air inside the bar and cool down. If you insulate the bar from inside more heat will be reflected out towards your hands.

If you look at a hot water tank the elements are inside of the tank but the insulation is on the outside to stop the energy being passed to the air. Thus retaining the heat on the inside. You want the same to happen on the grips, you want to stop the energy transferring into the air inside the tube and be reflected back towards your hands.

That fits not at all with heat transfer theory or practice. The transfer you are attemting to prevent is dependent upon air velocity inside the bars which is virtually absent with or without glass. Your hot water tank is doing it mostly by convection and has access to a huge volume of air(ultimately the whole atmosphere), just as the central heating "radiator"(which of course it mostly is not as it works primarily by convection)heats the house. The only meaningful loss through the bars is by conduction and is probably negligible for our purposes.

heated grips

Why not try heated gloves ! They work on all your bikes and you can keep them when you change your bike !!!!!!!!!
The thing which I found with heated grips is that our finger tips get coldwhilst your palms are toastie . Mike

Mike,
Thank you for cutting to the chase. Should have done that with all my toys.

Thank you. This all I was trying to explain.

Omer.
