I cant find aother post so forgive me if this is a repeat. My right hand side heated grip is not working is this a big deal to get sorted or can I do it my self.

All depends I suppose. Could just be the block connection under the tank for that side has become disconnected/dirty. or it could be a break in the wiring under the grip or maybe a bad earth.

The right hand grip is the throttle which is continuously being twisted one way or the other in opening and closing the throttle. When I fitted my heated grips I had to drill two 6mm(?) holes in the bars for the wires and I remember the instructions said to carefully de-burr the holes so that the wires would not be damaged. Could it be that the insulation has been worn through at this point with the continuous twisting and vibration on yours? If the Earth wire was the culprit then it wouldn't blow a fuse, but if it was the Battery feed it would have blown a fuse.

Left hand grips often are the first to go because you heave on that grip to get the bike onto its centre stand, in that case it's the thin heating wire (the element) just beneath the rubber grip that gets broken. You can roll this rubber back to expose the break in the wire which you can repair by twisting the (cleaned) ends together a few turns and silver soldering, which is what I did because I had some silver solder and flux (you can traditionally use borax) or just brazing them should be OK, again using some flux. You need dull red heat for either process, a bit less for silver soldering- also known as hard soldering. If you're stuck I've got some flux and some silver solder to spare. It does contain about 40% silver actually- it's not cheap.(!) It does differ from ordinary solder (called soft solder) which is mainly made up of lead and tin in various quantities, and that melts at a far lower temperature.

If that is what has happened with your right hand grip and you're stuck with the silver soldering then give me a shout. :thumb2
