Has anyone got any suggestions for heated grips for my '91 R80GS? My Oxford cheapies have given up after 3 years on the bike - no complaints, but it's time to replace 'em. Don't want to spend a fortune so...

Hi Sam, I have a couple of sets of the Dr Bike grips from j&s - the ones with the rotary controller like the older style Oxford ones. 40 notes delivered off ebay

I'm hoping santa is going to drop me another set in shortly (if SHE has remembered....) :D

Having had aftermarket HGs which were great at the time and now enjoying the delights of BMW oems have you considered getting some from a breakers ?

I've got the Oxford classic grips on my '90 R100GS and they're great, way warmer than the OEM ones :thumb2

Hi Phil, thanks for this!! I've just been having a look. They seem to be exactly the type I've on the bike now. They have worked very well - especially for the price. The only thing I don't like about them is the wiring 'knob' that sticks out to the left of the throttle grip. My current set stops me using my bar muffs. I wonder if its possible to find something similar without?

Hiya, nope I hadn't. I'm not sure what I think about them - they used to have not so good feedback re how long they stay working. Guess I'd be a bit edgy about getting them from the breakers. Suppose I ought to look to see what Motorworks have on offer.

These are a great, must have accessory - 2 stage heated grips keep you comfortable and warm. Riding with these really do extend your riding season!

Superb quality US made grip heater kit. Fed up with harsh, hard rubber heated grips from other manufacturers? Then we have the answer. This quality kit allows the heating elements to be fttted neatly and discretely under the original manufacturer grips or your own favourites

£75 for the Oxford Classics now but still way cheaper than the BMW ones. You are right, they do get toasty. Maybe I'll have to accept the wiring knob and go with these again. Had a great ride this morning. Just got Libby back from her first gear box rebuild - 267,000 miles - so had to take her for a trundle. Good excuse to bunk off eh :) But my hands did make a negative comment or two!!!

Well, these look pretty good! But how do you get them to fit under the grips? Mine are pretty tight!

cut the old grips off and fit some new type grips

The evolution of our most popular grip, the Pillow Top. The Pillow Top Lite was constructed with the same vibration reducing elements, but with a smaller overall diameter.

• Lower profile for better overall hand control

• Reduces vibration and cushions impact

• Tacky gel-like surface compound is perfect for MX & off-road riders

• Inner core compound perfects the bonding interface with bars

• ANTI-Rip Tip uses denser compound to increase life of the grip

• Designed to self-clean and shed mud away from outer surface

Hi Sam, I always fit the wiring bulb to the bottom on both grips, I feel they look unsightly sticking out the top. Obviously positioned so they don't foul the levers!
