Bike went in for its 1st service today. So, I mentioned that, the grips didn't feel that hot.

Apparently position 2 is 40C and fixed. However, position 1 is linked to the ambient air temperature sensor and can, if the temperature drops, heat the grips higher than 40C...

Thanks to Matt at Balderston's who was obviously paying attention at the training session ....... why this ain't in the manual, I don't know!

Thanks for that Jonnyp, :thumby:

I've complained on the last three visits to my dealer, bet they're getting p---ed off with me, so why haven't they rang bmw to find out if there is a problem :blast

I would be surprised if they can go much above 40 c as there are various safety regulations in regards to heating elements and physical contact, which prevent the possibility of scolding.

Don't shoot the messenger !

All I can tell you is what the dealer told me, I was out yesterday and although it has warmed up in pos 1 my hands seemed ok, could be a psychological thing... Not sure.

Plus the handlebars are aluminium which does work like a heat sink.

jonnyp. That solves a mystery as my grips are so cool they are hopeless. Tech gone mad with ambient sensor control. My brain tells me cold hand so hot grips on.....hot hands.....hot grips off.....Simples!!

Thanks for the post.

+1

I would imagine if the info regarding position 1 of the grips was correct, it would definitely make that clear in the handbook, which apparently it doesn't.
The heated grips was the only real criticism I had of the bike.
I took one out, the temp was around 1 degree C The grips were absolutely useless on setting 1 and not a lot better on setting 2. Had it on setting 1 a good 20 mins before going up to 2.:nenau

Forgive my ignorance, but which is position 1 and which is position2?

Thank you.

I ued them on My demo (about 5 deg) and found that on 1 they seemed to work o.k,,, but Im no lover of them,,,

I tried both settings today. The heated grips are still crap.:blast

I've got a calibrated temp sensor at work, I'll bring it home one night and check them out - I can't believe they are 40c..

I can check the pos 1 thing as well.

Fingers crossed we won't need them much now anyhow!!
