HI , AFTER RUNNING IN MY NEW LC LAST WEEK AND SOMETIMES WEATHER BEEN DOWN TO 6DEG AND RAIN ,HAVE FOUND THE HEATED GRIPS NOT AS GOOD AS MY PREVIOUS GS . ON MAX SETTING IS LIKE THE OLD MODEL ON THE FIRST SETTING , DISSAPOINED WITH THEM , HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED ? OTHERWISE BIKE IS WICKED AND EXTREMLEY PLEASED , SORTING IST SERVICE OUT ,

Welcome big George,
Firstly,no need to SHOUT.

Secondly, most folks are complaining about the grips, hopefully there may be a mod in the future.

Steve

HI GEORGE....... THEY ARNT GREAT, SHOULD HAVE HAD THE BIKE A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN THE TEMP WAS AROUND 0 DEGREES!!!!!!!:thumb2

Seriously.... I was told setting 2 is 40 degrees but setting 1 is linked to the ambient temperature sensor.

Yet to prove that out...

MUCH BETTER THAN MY TRIUMPH DAYTONA. SO MUCH WARMER. VERY HAPPY WITH GRIPS. THEN AGAIN THE DAYTONA'S WEREN'T HEATED.

NOT SO HAPPY WITH SEAT. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE HEATED AT ALL!!!!!

6 degrees and you need your heated grips on ??

Next you'll be sitting on a sheep skin seat ...

So does that mean if you use position 1, they are supposed to get warmer as the temp drops? What's 40C just a luke warm setting?

They are shit, get used to it
No don't. Complain every chance you get, never stop until BMW fix this problem. A £230 accessory should work at least as well as the cheapest DIY alternative. Its not difficult to get right.
I ride with light unlined gloves all year round, I have silk inners for the worst weather and rely on the heated grips for comfort.
My LC test was on a damp 2 deg C day and both grip settings had little effect, made worse by the poor protection from the hand guards.
Needs sorting for next year ready for my move from Hex head to LC.

I'm getting to like the new model, the small issues I have with the bike will disappear with familiarity. Hope BMW don't ignore riders concerns like they did with the F800 model.

Well, that's the idea..! I posted a comment on another thread about this but then someone quite rightly pointed out that there "maybe" some H&S reason why they couldn't go beyond 40c. Which I was also told was the same temp as the old ones!!

All I was told was that, on pos 1 they change with the ambient temp.

Now above I did say they were crap and I'm sure that they are not as good as my Hex head ones were but.... and this could be a psychological thing... mine seem to be getting better!

I did a run home from north Wales late last Sunday getting home at 1:30am it was 4-6 degrees and on pos 1 my hands were always warm. I wear light gloves with silk liners on pos 2 also warm!

Now I have to disagree with Sooty here, the hand guards, IMHO are excellent, they push air away from the rider unlike the old ones and the backs of my hands aren't as cold, I had TT extenders before, don't think I need them on this one :)

I'd also like to add......6 degrees...grips on!!. Big George needs to man up I thought Yorkshire men were tuff! Must be that tea they drink... I'm a southerner so only drink latte's and cappuccino's.

In your dreams see how long it took BWM to even acknowledge there was a problem with the fuel pump controller on the previous model. And that took quite considerable pressure from sites like this to press them into it.

My dealer stated BMW can alter the temp of grips with a software update! Whatever that means!

Interesting.
I wonder if somebody wants to measure the voltage entering the grips?

It may be possible to re-wire the feed via a simple potentiometer or 2 position switch with a resistor to bypass the BMW H&S stuff :augie

You shouldn't have to though......not on a modern bike :blast
The 11xx heated grips are toasty as anything...ah well, that's progress for you :augie

What kind of Gloves are you wearing? If they are already Thermal they will of course be rejecting the heat from the Grips.

I am using a pair of Rallye gloves and find them fine.

+1 and they heat up quick:thumby:

It probably has to do with the WC's alternator having been downgraded to 580 W. output from the previous 720 W.

Food for thoughts.
