Heated hand grips

Time for me to leave this thread as there are two opposing views that will never agree, I don't think it is either a safety issue or a warranty issue, others disagree :)

Hey he left here now he's on ADVRIDER on the heated grip thread...Can someone please TAZE him??? The joke is he bought a 2015 so he could have heated grips that work :-)

Engineers argument is that the heated grips heat up therefore they work therefore they are not faulty so BMW do not have to do anything.

I would ask him, if the heated grips raised the temperature of the grips by, lets say 5 degrees, then by his definition they work (see above). At what point would he say no, that's not hot enough ? Or would he accept ANY rise in temperature no matter how little it was ?

Oh dear indeed...

Anyway, all of you, ask your dealer about the amount of customers complaining about the grip issue. You will soon see its more than a few of us....
3 dealerships I have personally spoken to, Pidcocks, vines, rainbow. All nod and smile, all say there are loads of customers upset with them.
The fact is only a minority of us post on here, most people view.

I meet GS riders every weekend around Derbyshire, the vast majority are fully aware of this site, the vast majority choose to view and never post.

You've not asked me yet although I have been using my other bike recently due to the cold snap lol :)

Well I rode into York the other morning, 4deg C air temp, and wearing BMW winter gloves with the heated grips on and my hands were toasty to perfection. Bike is a April 2013 registered GS LC with NN hand guard extenders. Never been an issue for me. I picked up a loaner, mine into service with Barry Robson, a 650 GS with heated grips but no hand guards, no wind protection and I was fuckin freezing. Anyway at least I know all my fillings are good:D

Congrats....everyone a bit difference on tolerance of cold/heat difference between 13/14 and 15grips a good 30degrees but have heard the extenders are a big help

You're welcome to him :thumb

Had a software upgrade on my 14 GS - the grips are hotter than before.

I would say on full power at "motorway +" speeds in Scotland where the ambient temp was 8 degrees today they were definitely hot enough

I have just had 6 days touring Scotland and the minute the temp drops below 8 the grips are shite !

Just a quick update to say that the 15 grips are still working fine on my 14 bike, hands are now nice and warm, bike not caught fire yet!!!!
Cannot understand BMWs statement that the 15 grips will not work on a 14 bike !!! Wonder why they are still lying through their teeth !!!

Glad I managed to get them sorted as they could well be needed if we make it onto the Road of Bones.

BMW need to sort out all the others who still have this problem

Emailed several senior people at MCN asking them to write an article on this issue but didn't get a reply so sent a letter to the editor asking the same.

Again, heard nothing which I think it totally unacceptable.

Even if they don't want to highlight the issue they could at least acknowledge my email and or letter.

Bunch of rude arrogant *****

stopped my subscription in June of 04 when he was the only magazine in the world that panned the new 1200 GS... Seems that he wasn't invited to the corporate rollout and was upset he had a bike with mileage on it for their initial road test... So much for being truth in reporting...
