Heated hand grips

I must be lucky, mine get too hot to hold comfortably with thin gloves even in the recent cold spell.

My grips much hotty.

If you must attach some sails to your handle bars google MUFFS I am sure you will it will keep you warm all over.
When you get over that try oxford products.

Make sure your bar muffs are fitted right. I had some on a CB400 a few years ago, took my hand out to scratch my nose and could not get it back in to pull the clutch when approaching a junction. Not something I ever want to fit again. I experimented with old oil cans to make hand guards but once above 50 mph they deformed and applied the front brake and clutch. Its much better when the proper kit is supplied by the manufacturer,
sadly this is not BMW anymore.

...took my hand out to scratch my nose and could not get it back in to pull the clutch when approaching a junction...

I had some of the much exalted muffs a few years ago on my 800GS and although they were plenty toasty, the muffs hindered my use of the controls slightly and were a PITA to get my hands in and out of. I've fitted Barkbuster Blizzards to my 1200 GSA, and they're sufficiently rigid and open-backed that it's easy to get my hands onto the grips. The Blizzards don't come as far up the wrist as the muffs, so look more discrete, and are still good enough to keep the hands warm down to zero degrees. If riding through sub-zero temperatures the muffs would probably be better, but below zero I'm taking the car...!

Took my new GS out Saturday, on No.2 setting nice and hot but on No.1 Setting ---rubbish.
Strange though that it recommends not to leave on setting 2 , but to switch to No 1 when sufficiently warm. Did this but just not effective on No. 1 setting.

The other thing is the amount of time to get warm too... The old TC used to get warm by the time I was at the end of my road, now its a full 20 minutes before I can feel anything!
WTF indeed...

I keep reading about this, but well past freezing my 2015 has grips so hot I can barely stand it on high. Bummer for those with this issue!

Ordered this from Amazon.... will report back when I get it.. 19.98 free ship my daughter had prime

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JCFPODM

Received mine today. 17° outside and in my garage. Perfect time to test them.

By the way, I checked accuracy against my freezer, which is monitored and shows it on the screen, and my refrigerator. I also checked it against my outside thermometer. All within 1 degree, so seems accurate enough.

2015 R1200GSw, 500 miles on it. I have Grip Puppies, and on a ride below freezing mine feel hot enough that I have to turn them down after 10 minutes. My measurements were done all at idle to make them consistent.

Here is what I got:

Starting temp under the grip puppy:

After 60 seconds on high Outside the Grip Puppy:

After 1 minutes on high Inside the Grip Puppy:

After 1.5 minutes on high Outside the Grip Puppy:
15min984.jpg

2 minutes Inside the Grip Puppy:
underpuppy2min1493.jpg

Outside the grip puppy the temp maxed at 100°. With my bare hand on it the grip felt warmer over the course of 1 minute, but the temp remained the same outside the Grip Puppy and did not increase inside either.

I raised the RPMs to 2500, but this seemed not to make any difference sitting still in my garage.

One data point, now for others.

It baffles me as to why the new RT has such a wide range of settings that actually seem to work fine but BMW seem to treat the GS as the "poor relation"
Are BMW Euro pinching again?

OK, so I pulled my grip puppy back as far as I could:

Grip temp cold:

Start214.jpg

Bike temp dash:

2BikeTemp.jpg

Started the bike, and waited 60 seconds:

21min82.jpg

Then at 90 seconds:

2130min122.jpg

Then at 120 seconds:

22min142.jpg

So, even exposed to the air, my temps are much higher than BBs!

Just for fun I ran the bike at 2500 RPM for 1 minute and the grip peaked out at this:

22500RPM154.jpg

That is the exposed temp. I believe they effectively feel hotter, and may get hotter, when covered by a gloved hand.

Obviously there is an issue with some bikes.

I've just spent the day on the GSA today, and the high setting on the heated grips was TOO HOT!

I had to ride with them on the low setting!:comfort:D

Brilliant info thanks, I'm just purchasing a temp sensor as we speak so I can test my pathetic grips.
I'm sure from memory that my dealer said they were operating at 41 degrees Celsius. whatever the reading was, they said it was normal. They however are not, I may as well not have any at all!
Will post back my findings.

I have fitted the touratech hand guard extensions and lifted the guards with the levers just covered by the bottom edge,
there is a difference at speed, my grips are as hot as the gsa tc ones,
The standard hand guards are too small to keep the wind off,, roamer
