Heated hand grips

BMW are fully aware of the issue and are still looking to remedy it for us (apparently). The are still looking at more software fixes (apparently). They are aware that the new ones are hotter than the old ones (no apparently about that). They do not endorse the fitting of the newer model grips and wont authorise UK dealers to do this. Until then we have to wait for new software update apparently...
These are the words of BMW customer services two days ago to me on the phone. I told them everything they tell me will be on here! They are fully aware of this site !!! (Hi BMW!).

ps:- A fellow UKGSr may post his email on here too with some interesting comments from BMW.

Had a email from BMW customer services today stating that the grips on my 2014 GSA are working as they should, they also said that they would not fit the 2015 grips and they offered me a £250 contribution to spend at a BMW dealer.

All I want is for the grips to work like they did on my 2009 GSA and keep my hands warm !!

I wonder if they expect me to buy a pair of heated gloves to keep my hands warm.

Does anyone get more than 40 degrees from their 2014 bike or am I one of the unlucky ones were the grips do not work properly

BMW really do employ some brain dead knob heads. The new model has grips that get hot, so they have obviously fixed the problem. Rather than being a bunch of stubborn obnoxious twats, why not just fix the current bikes (which will cost them next to nothing), thus keeping existing customers happy, and maybe securing some loyaly for the future. Wankers.

I was out today and my fingers were nipping during the 100mile run. It really was uncomfortable.
Ambient temp was 3-4C.
Possible could have done with a better glove, but used same gloves on my 54 plate and never had a problem.

It doesn't help the that hand guards are also crap. Have to say that my heated grips from my 2014 GSA fall into the same category and are crap and no where near as good as my old GSA where I rarely ran with full power.

I guess BMWs view is that the 2015 bike is just an "improvement" over a working part and therefore does not warrant a replacement under warranty.

BMW if you are listening...many of your loyal customers who keep you in gainful employment and bought many of your products think differently....the general view is that this element of the bike is not doing what it should...you have clearly "fixed" it under 2015 bikes and those of us who took the plunge early should also gat the same "fix".

Why oh why did I not listen to my own advice.....always wait a year after a new model is launched with BMW! Seriously considering doing what some other have done and going back to a GSA.

Anybody want a mint fully kitted out Blue TE....I won't even charge extra for the colour!

confused …some says they are having theres changed FOC and some one else now says that BMW are not changing them

the letter throws the problem at the thicker bars, so does the 2015 have thinner bars ..? just change the bars then

Thicker bars, thinner bars, steel bars, aluminium bars, it's all bollocks.

My bike previous to my 2013 GS was a 2008 Yamaha Fazer 1000. The original handlebars were made of steel. On to these I put some Oxford Sports aftermarket heated grips which got very hot.

After a couple of years, I fancied changing the bars for some Renthals because I preferred the shape and styling and these are made from aluminium. The Oxford grips got changed over and guess what, they were still very hot on the highest setting just like before.

The grips on the left side were fitted directly in contact with the bar whereas the right grip was fitted to the plastic twistgrip and there was no difference in heat.

Someone at BMW has just made up a story for the dealers to tell their customers and make them go away. Well BMW that is not good enough.
Do they think we are stupid ? They should just admit the fact that the grips are are useless and fix them FOC..

I know of one guy who had the 2015 grips installed. They went right on and plugged right in, and were as hot as the 2015 bikes on his 2014.

No surprise to me.

Jim

I beginning to think ordering and paying for the 2015 grips may be the way I go to sort them

Hi Shaone,

Which dealer are you using ?? have they been helpful, have you been in contact with BMW customer services. If so what bullshit have they give you.

My dealers is Picocks - Unfortuantely this is what they told Titto who took his bike there:

Confirmed from my dealer too today the new grips (08/14) wiring arent compatible with the pre 08/14 bikes.
My only option is a forced software update specifically for my model grips, so it's going in for that.
So, no real update. I think others on here have had this specific update to no avail. I'll have it and test again with the IR heatgun to see if it is any different!

Had another email of BMW customer bullshit today after rejecting their offer of a £250 contribution stating that they are investigating the matter further !!! Wonder how much longer it is going to take them, they have had over a year now, I think they are staring to run out of bullshit to give us now.

Has any one out there got a 15 bike with the new grips who is willing to let me try them on my bike !!!!! Please

Or Anyone in the Manchester area with a 2015 that I could try the grips on my bike.

Does anyone know the price of 2 grips from BMW?
