Does anyone know the cost of a pair of the new type of grips being fitted to 2015 model GSLCs? If they aren't a fortune it would be worth buying and swapping them now that we're told they work on an older model if we believe this is correct. If the bike wasn't controlled by electronics which I assume measures the resistance and load of its electrical/electronic components there's no question that the heating elements of the new model grips will work. My only concern with swapping them is the bike's brain rejecting them. Another way of testing the bike to see if it would reject heating elements with a different resistance is to connect to disconnect the original grips and connect a pair of Oxford Hot Grips or others to see if they work. I have Oxford grips on another bike so may do this in the next couple of days.

Hey we got guys like this over on this side of the pond also :-( ..If it wasn't for threads like this nothing would get resolved...yeah a lot of complaining and misinfo but here is the real deal.. Having had an 05 GS I loved the heated grips and expected the same on my new 14 GSA LC.. It didn't happen so I started investigating ADVRIDER and also here at UK and was able to get a tremendous amount of good people with insightful and helpful answers like, Jimvonbaden,Godzilla,Shamone,Titto among others ( not like some people) So let's start at the beginning this is what BMW Says about their heated grips in their advertising,,
" As well-experienced motorcyclists know,only warm hands can react quickly. The heated grips option provides increased comfort and safety through two heating levels that regulate heat automatically with the outside temperature. This option will easily extend your riding season."
Their language not mine....So guess what I expect and demand what they advertise...- NOTE THE SAFETY ASPECT- So after all the "Bull Shit" the grips won't fit ( LIE)there are steel bars now (LIE) Software won't allow it (LIE) working as designed ?? What kind of engineers do they have..The only thing they changed were the grips to a lower ohm rating 5.5. I wrote the following to my dealer..
"Started the bike yesterday and ran it for 10 minutes in 43 degree outside temperature. I had the heated grips on high for that amount of time. Forgetting about what my infrared therm. read (I got up to 101) ... I put my BARE hands on the grips and it would be charitable to say the grips were warm! I contacted BMW Customer service and the bottom line is they say they are "working as designed" Well the bottom line is they in no way work as they are advertised to.... Here is what BMW says in their advertising.

Well my heated grips don't do any of the above..They claim it increases safety..mine don't.... So BMW came out with new heated grips - on 8/14 to address the poor performance of the ones on 13 and 14 model years... I have owned BMW's for 40 years , the most recent one before this a 2005 GS -whose grips I would have to put on low after 5 minutes. I ride all year round and one of the features that convinced me to pay over $23,000 for a new one is the heated grips. As BMW says I want to " Safely extend my riding season" "
So my dealer went above and beyond and tried a pair of 15's on a 14 he had in the shop GUESS WHAT ?? They worked he called me and said hey just ordered a pair bring your bike in next week..No Charge... I'm intentionally not mentioning the dealer as he asked me not too because he doesn't want to get 100 bikes in he didn't sell or get between dealers and BMW Corporate..... But there was no charge and I know the General manager and he put pressure on BMW... Got the bike home yesterday started it up and too hot to hold after a couple minutes and got a reading of 160 degrees F.. didn't get above 100 on the old pair.. See below.. A couple additional points
* I got the software upgrade a couple moths ago to turn on the heat when idling... I didn't do anything for the heat and i doubt it plays in anyway with the 15's being so good
* YOU MUST VERIFY THAT THEY WORK THE SAME IN THE UK/EUROPE AS HERE SO MUST DO THAT BEFORE STORMING THE DEALER or BEG A DEALER TOO TRY THE SWAP

I think the first thing is you have to make sure my results are repeatable on Europe spec bikes...I am pretty confident they are But Need to Prove It
Secondly the Quote below is directly from their website SAFETY is the key word that they are leaving themselves open for all kinds of lawsuits...And how about False Advertising??? No Lawyers in the group??

In the meantime, I have been having the exact same responses from BMW customer services, apparently after liaising with Motorrad as have been mentioned on here. So the responses are straight up lies as we have suspected thus far.
Reading the ADV rider thread, you know there is defiantly a problem when people in Florida or Australia are complaining their grips aren't hot enough!

Well there might be different construction of the actual 15 grips?? But I don't know enough about it???
And the only way top be sure is swap 15 grips on a 14 bike then go after corporate
Just had the latest email off CS. I have now been upgraded to a customer services manger who so far has not given any bullshit about the problem. They have agreed that additional investigation is to be carried out on the heated grip problem and the bike is booked in a Pidcocks next Tue morning.
I have been told that the retailer will have full support from one of their technical managers at BMW UK as they are very keen to resolve the issue.
Did notice on sat that Pidcocks had a 15 demo bike in, wonder if they would swap the grips over and try them ???? no harm in asking, it will prove a point either way.
Will update next week after the bike as been in, fingers crossed !!!

Given what they have said in the past about the earlier grips being as specified with no problem, I wonder if this is the beginning of a change of heart ! They need to keep their existing customers happy.

I will be very interested to hear the outcome of this. Hopefully BMW will agree to this under warranty and then we should all be in a position to get them swapped.

Pidcocks for me again, I've asked numerous times but not in 2015 as ive been hoping they'll have a serious answer for me eventually..

Alternative to that, buy a set of 15 heated grips, £120 ish, (left non sat nav prep is £46, I brought one after i could not get on with the wheel) piddy's will surely honour some disc, if you fit and your proven correct (hotter) then ring bm UK and ask for Andy Cook, he's the man you talk to if you cannot get anywhere with customer services. If there still the same take the £250 they offered you.

Nutty I have to disagree mate, they have been brilliant for me. Swapped that 13 plate gs of doom I had (you know, the one i bought from the so called brilliant rainbow dealer, whose service dept turned out to be complete liars?!) , for the 14 plate one I had without any hassle. In fact I ended up with a slightly higher spec bike.This Pidcocks organisation sounds like a right shower of shite
With this scenario, they are doing all they can for us, which is the forces software update.
I haven't seen anyone else on here state their dealer is actually doing more than this?
Re the 250 quid, only Drainman has been offered this. No one else has. This has also been mentioned in my complaint to BMW customer services.
I've been liaising with Drainman about "gripgate" and we are sharing all our correspondence to BMW and they know it- they are treating customers differently and trying to fob everyone off. This has nothing to do with any specific dealership.
Another ride yesterday, 2 degrees and frozen hands. My mate on his 15 gs had to turn his off at one point they were so hot for him. We've measured a 21 degree difference between the grips on his and mine on full power yesterday.

It looked like they are fobbing the two guys off, who I quoted above.
As far as GripGate goes for me, I've got to get mine back to the dealers (again) to be inspected before BMW CS Will entertain talking to me. I'm self employed like many here so taking the bike in on a weekday is difficult as I tend to be away on customers site's for 5 days at a time so I now have to wait for a weekend slot.
It's already been in once in January and all that happened was a check for Fault Codes.
I was out on Sunday, even with my "muff's" and the grips on high (it was pretty cold and wet, hovering around the 3 - 5 deg 'c mark my hands were still suffering. To anyone who jumps to BMW's defence, and blames circulation etc etc, it's bullshit, I'm running cheap R&G heated grips on the other bikes and they get between 40 - 60 Deg/F hotter than my 2014 GS, and I don't have a problem with "feeling the cold"
Be nice to get it resolved, so will book it into Chester again, and try and get the ball rolling with BMW Customer Services.

For the record, I have found Pidcocks to be ok and have dealt with all my warranty issues as required. However unless BMW accept that an issue exists how is any dealer going to paid/credited for parts and labour? I have not hassled them re the heated grips on my bike as waiting to hear about the outcome on Tuesday.
I have also used Rainbow in the past and have been pleased with the service received. Dealers are the generally the 1st point of call. How they deal with the requests will determine if a customer uses them again, but with new BMW GS flying out of showrooms.....
