Heated hand grips

I was out yesterday and it was not to cold, around 8-9 deg C and I had my Aerostitch ropers on and could barely feel the heat from the grips when I was moving. I was at the dealers yesterday and it's booked in for a service on the 11th April and they are going to speak to BMW about what can be done.

For all of Engineers comments about they do heat, they do, but that heat is nullified almost totally by a bit of Air flow. I'm off to Oban for work next week and taking the GS, so it's back on with the Bar Muff's. Apart from switch gear failure, it's taken the shine off the bike for me over the Winter months.

Thats what I would post on Facebook along with a letter from a lawyer to my dealer and BMW UK.... Come on one of you blokes gotta be a lawyer..????

I mean they are serving it up on a silver platter with that statement...

One more time the above in bold is what bmw advertises .... The grips on the 13's and 14's don't do that.... The End

My 2014 GSA has been in twice to the dealer for issue's with grips this year, not only are they lacking in heat as reported over the many pages of this thread but they were also shutting down after 30 to 40 minutes needing a complete power down to reset them. First time what ever they did made no difference, the second time the dealer had the bike for a week and did a grand total of thirty miles on it as they had carried out a software update and wanted to road test it.
Net resault of this seems to be if the reported temp is 8 degrees or more the grips will run continuously but the heat out put is poor, if the temperature is below this magical 8 degrees well they still shut down and the temp of the grips is virtually non existant and considering that at 7.30 this morning the temp was showing -0.5 to 2 degrees all the way to the lakes made for cold hands.
Back to the dealer first thing in the morning.

I think that's very constructive as it's probably the view of most on this particular thread. You bring nothing but sarcastic comments about an issue that a lot of us feel BMW should sort out. We all know your views, so unless you can offer something different, why keep posting.

Or is it that you just lead a sad lonely life where nobody talks to you so you like to "poke your stick" to get people to engage with you ?

It's a shame that we don't have a filter button for individual posters.

I am sure there is a way of you adding me to an ignore list, that way you won't see my posts.

However, the fact is that the grips do work and you simply don't like being told that, so you and a few others become abusive - doesn't bother me one jot because it is normal for a minority to get themselves into that twisted mind set.

I have said on many occasions that I'd like the grips to be a bit hotter and guess what, it seems like BMW have done a design change to that effect on the 2015 bikes. But all this nonsense about not fit for purpose, safety etc is exactly that, nonsense.

We are all free to express our opinions - just that a few on here often like to suppress those opinions when it doesn't suit them - you are one of those people I suspect.

If you don't like what I write then just ignore it.

Here's one for you if you can beleive it.
I went into my local BMW dealer on Saturday as they used to sell heated gloves from Keiss. (I had just test driven a Triumph Exlorer that morning and although I wanted to love it enough to replace the GS, it wasn't quite there with a couple of niggles to me).

On asking if they still do them they said no but you should buy a BMW with heated grips. At which point I said that was a bone of contension and I have a BMW GS with heated grips that are useless.
They said what year, I said '63' plate. They then said "you should buy a 2015 GS as the heated grips are much better"

At that point I ranted into the "that's why BMW have changed the grips etc because they know they are no good" I got the standard 'because of the bars etc'.

Now this was from little upstarts rather than the bike sales guys who I get on well with but even so it's these sort of comments to an obviously disgruntled customer that will lose them business.

To some here it seems like you are committing a crime to criticise BMW and their superior products. Have these people never sent anything back in a restaurant? or just happy to go with the flow all the time? "I asked for my steak rare, and it's like the sole of a shoe" .......... Yes sir, but it's a steak, it's how we cook them.

If I've paid for something then I really would like it to work to a degree of expectation. It's not unreasonable when the expectations are based on the ownership experience of previous BMW's that I've owned, (R1100GS, Rockster, 2 x 1200GS Twin Cam's) and when gauging it against Triumph's and the cheap heated grips I have fitted to the ZX12R (60 deg F hotter than the LC)

So yes, the LC grips do heat up, so they are heated, but the output is nullified by the airflow once moving.

I love my bike, despite this LC giving me more problems than many of my previous bikes, save maybe for my old VF750 Interceptor with chocolate camshafts, (switch gear failures, one that left me stranded in Austria last year.)

Not related to the heated grip saga at all, but I just got a call from my Skoda dealer about an issue with the heated seat's on my Superb.

My complaint was that over the last few months my car's heated seats were now taking to long to get up to temperature. I had it checked by the dealer, who said, "they do take a while to get up to temperature, but there's no fault showing". The dealer asks if I'd like to them to pass it up to Skoda UK, so I say yes. Just to be clear, the seats are working, on their 3 heat range settings, but take 5 - 10 minutes to get up to temperature.

On the phone call a few minutes ago "The Skoda area tech rep has tried your car and is not happy, he's authorised us to replace the carbon seat heater panels, control units and switches as a fix, can we keep your car for the remainder of the week?"

That's how it should be handled BMW, not fobbing people off or attempting to BS people over bar materials etc. In summary, my seat's were taking to long to warm up, car is now a week out of manufacturers warranty, no messing, a quick inspection and replacements authorised at no cost to myself.
