Hella FF50 Wiring?

I'm considering the purchase of some Hella FF50's to compliment the "less than perfect" lights of the GS12....

I assume they just wire into the existing lighting system? If so, do they cause any problems with the canbus system?

Also, this may seem like a stupid question, but are the GS12 lights poor enough to warrant the Hella's coming on with Dipped beam? Or is the "accepted" use of them, to have them come on when you turn on main beam?

The only other alternative i can think of is to have a seperate switch mounted somewhere so they work entirely independantly, and i can choose exactly when i want them on etc.. has anyone tried this setup, if so, how do you find it etc????

thanks guys....(and gals ofcourse)

Although I have a toggle switch mounted through the hand guards to operate my Touratech aux lights, I tend to leave them on all the time. My lights are powered from the battery using a relay connected to the dip beam headlight, see 'install a relay' from http://www.r1200gs.info/#howto

This way the lights only operate when the headlights are on (main or dip beam) AND the toggle switch is set.

I don't know if wiring driving lights into the same circuit as the OEM headlights will affect the CANBUS or not. I chose to wire my Hella F50s directly from the battery with a relay and a switch. I used the rear accessory socket wire for the relay "check to see if there is power" wire. This setup works well as it allows me to use the lamps whenever the key is on.

I mounted the relay under the black trim piece in the cockpit

I put the switch inside the left hand protector.

I'm using a Martin Fabrication lightbar from here (he can ship to UK) http://www.creativecycleconcepts.com/
