After a bit of advice.

What is the best helmet for long distance touring? the requirements are comfort, quiet, stream lined, I think? anything else to consider?

I am thinking of getting a Shark Evoline.

First - one that fits you comfortably. Everything else follows on from there. Helmets manufacturers tend to design their helmets to fit the spectrum from round to long oval and shapes in between. However, I find that there seem to be fewer and fewer lids that fit my long oval head nowadays.

If I were buying a new helmet tomorrow, I'd be seriously looking at the new Shoei GT Air, subject to everything I've said about fit.

So would I, but it wasn't available six months ago when I bought a Shoei Neotec. Just to throw another option into the mix. The sun visor was what I really wanted (and I was right to want it, having used it for a summer). The flip-front is turning out to get much more use than I expected, the downsides being a bit more weight and a few less $$ in my pocket.

Oh, another consideration for me is that the helmet fits into my pannier when I park the bike. But that's not applicable to long-distance touring?

I have a Shoei shaped head; fit before features. Quiet isn't a deal breaker for me because they're all too noisy to go long distances without earplugs.

As above :thumby: however, if you get a flip front, youll find it a little bit heavier and a bit noisier than a full face.
I use a neotec myself and find its very good. I also use moulded ear plugs to quiet things down a bit. Incidentally, I used an evo-line for a short time and found it heavy and noisy compared to previous Shoei helmets
MOULDED EAR PLUGS, THE BEST HELMET ACCESSORY EVER INVENTED !. once your deaf , your deaf for life. Protect your hearing.

But how do you know about quietness before you wear the helmet?

I'm also looking for a new helmet, probably flip front again. Currently using Caberg, and I think its noisy, but how do you measure / compare this?

Is there a definitive list of noisy / quiet helmets?

Fit first, style after. Then moulded plugs, job done.

I've always had Arai. Now a convert to a schuberth s2. Not as substantial as an Arai but very quiet, like the sun visor, very comfy, just a bit of a squeeze putting it on due to padding around the base but a good trade for the quietness.
Like the fact you can ride along visor up and sun shield down at low speeds.

Only caveat is not tried yet on a proper scorcher of a day...
