Hi Folks

Newbie here wanted to introduce myself and need the forums help. Great site has been brilliant in helping buy the right bike for me.

After some guidance on which mods are essential and which are just bling.

Have looked for a recent link and even emailed the admin for help. No luck

I have bike order with SBW in Welwyn. Its true what the forum says about the quality of the dealership.

Its a New GS TE. Deal done yesterday and awaiting delivery date. Want to get the parts delivered to add to bike before drive off as I am the Mr Bean of Bike maintenance. So far it has:
Panniers + Tope box with liners
Sat Nav 5
Akro silencer
Tracker
Engine Bars & Engine covers
GAP insurance -thanks to The Nutty GSER pervious post saved £150 over dealer

I have a budget of about £800 excluding fitting. What would be the must have mods? Also any vulnerabilities on the bike that need protecting or real care i.e. Rads, side stand, lights etc. Or should i just get on the thing and ride.

Come from CBF 1000 so use to bits falling off, crap lights, seat & wind protection and stator failures in outside lane of French motorway. If it helps I will commute and tour mainly twisties with 10% off road. All year biker so have shed load ACF50 just waiting. My mileage will be in the 10K per year.

Screen and seat are fine for me and won't plan to change. Already have ground anchors, pinch pin and chains and disk locks. Thinking about spitting cobra or rattle snake or one of those bulldogs from recent post on the forum as additional London safety feature:)

If this has been asked before apologies in advance

Helps would be appreciated.
Mike

Congratulations, I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.
I would go for the auxiliary led lights, they would be a dealer fit option so try and get a good discount as they've taken a wedge from you already. After you have about 1000 miles on the clock is would take a trip to see Geoff at Hilltop.

Rear mudsling and front crud catcher or mudguard extension.... good to go.

Spare engine, drivetrain and shares in the company known as ACF50

That'll just about cover it:augie

Rad guards, buddy had his burst with a stone on Sunday, R&G are quite reasonable!

Shitload of gasoline. And vacation. Lots of vacations. Oh yes, and a passport with appropriate visas. And gasoline.

"which mods are essential and which are just bling."

Oh that's a corker!

I believe' they' have a triple pink version coming out soon too, with a manicure kit inlieu of tools.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the Akro Silencer.

Aux Lights are excellent.

Engine bars are useful just in case.

Nav 5 is very good.

Bar risers might be useful but see how you get on.

Camel Toe for the side stand is also very useful.

And a covering of ACF50

MachineArt fender Extender
Mudsling
Touratech frame guards
Evotech rad guards & final drive bung

Great link - just ordered one myself for my new GS

Dear All

Thanks for all the advice. Spelling was not my thing at school. I am going to just ride and enjoy the new bike.

Will invest in the camel toe, rad guards , aux lights and bars and various fender/crud/mud catchers.

Will post some photos
Appreciated
Mike

When I traded my last GSA in for a new one, one of the questions the dealer asked me was, "Are there and marks on the frame from my boots?"

My answer was no due to me having frame protectors (which covered where the paint had come off from my boots rubbing on the frame after only two rides).

There's a big clue there. ;)

Good point on the side stand foot. Even if you're not planning on going off road much you'll be thankful of it many times, such as campsites, laybys etc
I went for one from ebay. First thing I bought for mine

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R1200GS-LC-TE-Water-Cooled-Side-Stand-Foot-Paw-Toe-Enlarger-2013-Onwards-/291889778613?hash=item43f5fc8fb5:g:QBsAAOSwaNBUdI4K

Which I have to say is very good and cheap.

Just ordered one of the sidestand footprint enlargers from Matt.
He is very professional & made sure everything was exactly as i needed before shipping - even sending out a printable diagram to make sure the dimensions are good.
Have to mention too that on top of all of that, he even translated everything to Castellano. Top man !! :thumb2
Will post my thoughts & some pics once i install the enlarger.

Not every day you receive service like that - so wanted to share my experience with the forum...

For my money and having purchased all sorts of bits n bobs...after 50000 plus miles in two years on my GSA the best bit is the little plastic spoiler that fits on top of the screen...got it from touratech , not cheap but well worth it.....makes a huge difference..
