Help....Bike won't start at work

I've just been out to the car park to go home and my bike won't start When I press the starter button it turns over if thats the right expression, but doesn't actually start or make any sound like it nearly starts. I tried bump starting it down a hill but the rear wheel just locked up when I let the clutch out without making any attempt to start. The battery is ok ( I think) and everything was fine this morning. Not sure where to check first - will probably call the recovery tomorow morning.

Its a 2003 1150GS with 34000 miles.

Any ideas most appreciated

forgive the very basics, you have probably done all of these but worth trying!!
side stand up/clutch pulled in??
the"choke" for fast running may help on acold day
have you immobiliser? maybe its gone u/s?
check position of kill switch...it might be just knocked out of position enough to stop ignition
if it turns over on starter...there must be some juice left in battery?
So maybe it is a bit short of charge and cant do both turn over and provide juice for spark? Lights all off to try again?
So maybe a bump start was thing to do...but which gear did you use....3rd or even 4th would avoid rear lock up as long as the hill is long enough??
petrol in tank, maybe obvious but worth a check, if low maybe all in wrong side of tank? (tilt bike over to right and see if this helps)
what work has been done on bike in last few days/weeks, any possible clues from that as to where the prob lies??

anyway, good luck..at least you get to see how good the recovery cover is!

I think they will charge me occupation fees, plus bike parking!

The bike has a full tank, side stand is up and it doesn't have an immobiliser fitted. I didn't try turning off the lights to try and start it, and I've probaly run the battery right down now.. Maybe I will take the battery out and charge it up at home. I'm not sure if the fuel pump is running or not - to be honest I'm not sure what to listen for. Its been running fine and the battery is only a year old or so - I bought one of those Hawk Odysseys (I think thats what they are called?)

If I get recovery, I think they only will do one trip, so its whether I get them to take it straight to CWs or to my house....

Nope...wife had to come and pick me up... she wasn't too happy

I'll go into work tomorrow and take a look. I may remove the battery and take it home for a charge overnight though I can't see why that would have drained?

Maybe I will take the battery out and charge it up at home. I'm not sure if the fuel pump is running or not - to be honest I'm not sure what to listen for.

When you switch the ignition on,listen for a whirring coming from the tank.
That is the fuel pump pressurising the injection system.
If you are having to lift or remove the tank for battery access,make sure the 4 pin connector for the pump/fuel guage (under the RH plastic cover) is plugged in firmly and the pins are clean.
Also make sure the RH throttle cable is seated correctly as well.
You dont want to introduce another problem do you.

Try taking the plugs out and turning the starter. If the back wheel is locking up the cylinder may be full of petrol -sounds unlikely though if the starter is turning over the engine, but might be worth a try.

I went back to work today with a fully charged battery. Still no joy - it turns over but doesn't start, so i think I will call the Carol nash recovery later on and get them to bring it back to my place so i can take a closer look.

When I turn the key I hear a short whirring noise under the tank - is that the fuel pump? All the lights and things on the dash work as normal.
