Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. When i try and start my 1200GSA07 the light come on as normal on the instrument panel, but when i hit the switch i get a loud knocking noise from the bike and the engine warning light appears on the panel. :(

I did wash it a couple of days ago, not jet washed just the same way i have always washed it. Just de-tarred it with a rag and tried to start it to put back in the garage.

Any ideas anyone, before i call BMW Assistance?

Loose battery connection?

Doesn't sound like the old EWS fault that I along with many others have had.

Mike.

I think the last option is the best:thumb

You shoul have bought a 1150 GSA:D

Not an EWS fault as it leaves the bike totally dead without the abiliy to turn over.

It sounds like a duff battery to me but I'm no expert.

As for the comment of the previous individual why are you in this section with your oh so perfect 1150 GSA?

:troll1

Thanks guys for the speedy replies,

Bike has been plugged into Optimate all week, Connections are secure also.

I'll leave it on charge again over night and assess the situation in the morning, what puzzles me is the engine warning light illuminating when i attempt to start it, not when ignition is switched on.

I'll let you all know how i get on, thanks for your help. :thumb2

Diodgy connection to started motor?? (just a thought if the battery is fully charged,)

Andy where does the knocking come from? Does it sound mechanical or is it more of a chattering sound? If the latter then my money's on the battery.

Sounds more mechanical to me, i've heard the low battery ticking noise before but this is more of a knocking sound. Just got up, so i'll give it another go after breakfast and in no luck, give the assistance call, it's beautiful weather here, don't want to waste it!!!

Stick it on the centre side, put it into gear, and try turning the back wheel by hand, just in case something nasty is going on in the motor, loud clunks don't sound too good.

Well, recovery got it tarted with :blast jumper cables

Battery f*ck*d obviously. Took it for a little spin, stalled it,had to push it about half a mile home :spitfire:eek:

Now it won't start again. Any of you guys know where i can get hold of an Odyssey battery in the South Wales area? Cheaper to do that than get it recovered and have to mess about with hire car and fuel etc.

2007 GSA ?

Isnt it still under warranty ?

It is, yes, is it worth getting a new BMW battery fitted if they are so CR*P? I'm tempted to bite the bullet and fit an Odessey battery. It seems that nobody who has fitted one of these batteries have had any issues since?

My nearest dealer is a fair distance away since BMW saw fit to close their only dealership in Wales :spitfire.

It seems that by the time i get it recovered to Stroud, get a hire car back and then go back and collect it, the cost of fuel will be the same as a new battery!?

Part of me wants to get it sorted for free by BMW, but i would not want it to fail soon, especially whilst on a trip somewhere, luckily this time it was in the garage when i discovered the fault.

Get BMW to pick up the bike, fit a new battery and deliver it back to you. From my previous dealings, Mondial are allowed to do two "moves" of the bike per breakdown. I only know this as when my previous bike broke down they sent it to a garage that couldn't do anything with it for a month. I then had it shipped to Vines, but then had to collect it as I'd used up my "2 moves".

Sorted, BMW technician turned up this morning and replaced the battery under warranty! No need for recovery.

So was out riding again this evening with a big grin on my face :D

Thanks guys for your help and comments :thumb
