Hi All,
Got a wee problem with my 1200GS and was hoping for some advice.
The bike was running brilliantly and I took it out today in the pissing rain for a bit of light off-roading.

10 minutes into it I got bogged (tried uploading pics but not sure how)

Took about 20 mins to get out, set off again, went through water up to about the rocker covers and came off twice, bike fell on to both sides (one each time I came off, need nobbly tyres I think). The bike has touratech crash bars to protect the rockers (thank fu*k).

Anyway, no cosmetic damage so I set off again. The bike was running ok so I thought until I got back onto the main road and tried to open it up a bit.

She runs ok if you gently climb the revs, however if you open her up in any gear she has no power and feels like she is running on one cylinder or something. Checked the external ends of the cylinder heads visually for mud over the plug ends but there was none. Any ideas???

Will check in the morning, hope thats all, I seem to remember Charlie Boorman and Euan McGregor dropping theirs every time they got out of 1st gear, driving through rivers and bogging every 200meters.....but their's kept on-going....oh yes their's bloody kept on going!

Do you think if I hire a camera crew to follow me next time I will get away with it then???

Er, that's cos they was on 1150's. LWD, when they came to water they (understandably)walked the 1200's through.

Dry the coils out.

Not that, defo still missing when I pull back the throttle, like I said it runs ok if I gently accelarate....not sure how to check the coils. Think I might do the warranty thing tomorrow if no other suggestions.

dont tell them you went offroad it will invalidate your warranty, i think, it happened to another 1200 owner here.

GS stands for Gelanden/Strasse - that is to say "off-road/street. You cannot lose your warranty for using the bike for the purpose it was designed. However droppng it under water may be a bit unreasonable! You can't really hide the fact because there will be plenty of evidence so I advise that you come clean - no pun intended.

GS stands for Gelanden/Strasse - that is to say "off-road/street.

When I bought my 08 12GS in March I too thought it stood for 'off road'. But having had my second tech problem in as many weeks I realise now that it stands for 'off THE road'

Think you misunderstood....didn't drop it under water....anyway just done the warranty claim so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Check that the throttle potentiometer lead on the LHS has not become dislodged (it is only a spring clip holding it on) / broken as this gives similar results to what you are experiencingif I remember correctly.
