Help needed with centre stand

Hiya, im in the process of trying to make up a tool for removing the springs on the centre stand of the lc gsa, im at work at the mo and could of do with taking a measurement off the centre stand, but the bikes at home so i was wondering if someone with access to a bike would be kind enough to measure between the two plates that are on the end of the centre stand springs for me???

Centre to centre of elongated hole 180mm.
Bottom of top plate to top of bottom plate between springs 155mm
 
Or insert a bunch of washers

I tried the washer trick first, that doh work, tried various other tricks, but the problem is trying to un hook em without doin any damage to the bike or me🤬 so now the plan is to put something inbetween the two spring plates and wind out untill it stretches the springs enough to just unhook em..............hopefully anyway

Go to your local sports shop ;)

You want a Skate lace puller cost about £5

Or if you do fishing, a wire trace and a HD garden glove will do the trick also :)
 
Ratchet strap anchored at one end to a car/van or something heavy and the other end tied to strong cord threaded through the plate, bike in gear and possibly brake applied. Ratchet into position, so so easy.
 
Just done mine with no problem. 1. Pack out the springs as much as you can with tinplate/washers in the "upright" position first- if you use tinplate, you can cut oblong pieces that go through both springs at the same time so you don't need to tape them in place ( I actually used multiple strips of tinfoil from ready-cook meals!). 2. When you let the centre stand up, spring comes off its hook easily with a block of wood behind footrest mount and strong screwdriver or similar through from the other side to gently lever the spring bracket off. 3. Replace - same method (with centre stand tied in the "up" position). TBH I found it more fiddly to to replace the circlips than the spring itself..... Hammerited to oblivion now.
 
Thanks for all the input lads, ended up using the penny washer trick in the end, after 2 nights of head scratching and faffing about, sat there tonite and painfully filled the springs with washers, the fookin things were off in minuts, i couldnt believe it so off to the powdercoaters tomorrow

Yep. It's easy when you think it through first - I spent a couple of days planning how to do it, too.
 
Only thing I have available in numbers is 2p pieces. They don’t fit. I’ve given up after spending most of the day with straps, coins and whatever trick I could think of.

Breath mate🤣 it seems like a pain in the arse.........an it is but slowly slowly an all that i used a small flat blade screw driver started from the bottom an needed only 10 flat washers per spring, 2p's wud b ok aswell, start with the bike on the centre stand and then when ready slowly drop it off the ctr stand, keep control of the stand with your right foot, when the bikes down, youll know if youve cracked it coz the centre stand wont go all the way back up, itll sort of hang limp, youll get it

I already took mine off...Need to stretch them to get them back on ???

I gave up using washers etc when the bolts holding the stand on (RT hexhead) sheared - I believe they are similar to the LC. In the end I clipped the springs to the fittings, screwed the left screw in a few threads and pulled the other side to align the holes by levering the stand by pulling on one of the legs.

I fitted new bushings/screws and there is just enough play to do this.

Once I'd worked out what to do it took less than 10 minutes.

Aint sure about the rt, but the gs/gsa hexhead has a difrent stand set up to the gs/gsa lc

Ok, just looked at the realoem site and the stand on earlier bikes was only located on one point each side whereas the later ones are two points so probably not enough play.

Maybe the LC won't shear the fixing screws as frequently as the older bikes - hope so as I nearly dropped it at the MOT station when the tester asked me to put it on the main stand at the bolt sheared...
