I got a problem with my dipped headlight...It wont work.........

I have tested all posibilities

I have got switched 12 volts right at the bulb at 120ma, this responds by dropping and climbing of the voltage shown on a multimeter when the switch is activated.

I have swapped the relay with the horn relay (the horn works with both relays so i dont suspect a problem there.)

I have put a 12volt supply through the bulb which lights the bulb.

So i have no problem with power, relay, switch or bulb...but it still wont work...


Please help...

EXACTLY what did you do to obtain the 120ma figure?

I got this reading from the multimeter from measuring apms, maybe its 12.0amps, not really sure...

But it is measuring a current, thats what i mean...


I could not understand if i was gettin a low amp reading anyway...


so i am stupid when it comes to electrics..

Did you set your meter to 'ampere' then connent the meter terminals to the bike's wires?

I have not tried it with engine running...

I feared that. You're simply short-circuiting your bike's wiring - not a good idea!

My light stopped working long before i did that, but thanks, i wont do that again....

...Just been out on it there and everything is working fine except the dipped beam...

Really puzzled...

Yes i will try it in the morning...

How can i have 12 volts at the bulb and it does not light ???

I have tested the bulb on a battery charger and it works then...so its not the bulb ?????

ok so its solved......

I connected the earth to the high beam earth and its working now...all i gotta do is find out the bad earth connector and clean or repair it...

PS : Greg, i updated my amp finding skills and now realise its measured in series of the 12 v positive.... I made the mistake of crossing the streams...


YOU NEVER CROSS THE STREAMS !!!!!!!!
