Hi All, I am in desperate need of some help, When I start the bike the servo does not function nor does the brake light but I do still have residual brakes with no brake light. The "brake failure" light still flashes even when bike is moving above 10 mph. The bike is a 2006 model and the only thing I have done is to wire autocom to back of power socket could this have caused the problem? My local dealer is booked out for next 10 days so any help will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Lee

Make sure that your handgaurd is definietly NOT fouling the brake lever and not letting it return to the full off position and therefore making the switch active! This will not allow the system to self check BUT the brake light should be on So check the rear bulb is not stuffed by changing it to a known working one!

Well then Disconect it and see if stuff goes back to normal!

If you can't get it Sorted give Brian a shout at Mototech lisburn I think he has Diagnostics

Just shows ya how caring and sharing our local dealer is! A Brake failure issue and they can't spare 10 mins to run a diagnostics??

Schtuuumm Here we go again!

Jaythro will check handguards and autocom first thing tomorrow. This only happened tonight I will ring dealer tomorrow and see if they can fit me in. If it only takes minutes to check they should. I know they are very busy as the earliest service I could get was first week in July. Wondering if this is a common problem or possibly something I have done.

Cheers

Check the rear brake light switch - when this happened on my R1100S the spring on the switch was caught on the bolt (attached to the brake pedal) that normally provides the action of operating the switch.

I believe something like this could potentially happen on rough terrain, but I know my issue was caused by clipping a traffic cone in road works :blast

Typical of main dealers of all types. My Seat is main dealer serviced and mid service intervals the brakes have just got noisy and need new pads. Not only do they not check that there is enough material to last to the next service, they then say 10 days to book it in. Warranty is up in 6 months, then it will go to the local garage where they know what they are doing.

Is there a directory anywhere for independent BMW mechanics?

I was going to give myself a day off & go to the Bush road race, but don't fancy standing in a wet field!

..........or there's some sort of switch cover on the RHS of the bike that once fell off mine and wedged the rear brake lever ever so slightly down, so when the start-up check was done, the system thought I was holding the brake lever.

Have you moved, adjusted or banged the RHS handguard/lever/wires?

There is a microswitch that operates the (front) brake light and is a bit of rubbish design held in by a small grubscrew from below. If misaligned it can fool the servo startup procedure.

Many thanks to everyone, I have checked front brake handguard and seems fine with plenty of clearance. I will check everything else out more thoroughly later today and tomorrow. If the servo was to fail would there not be warnimg triangle flashing along with the brake failure light? The reasom for the panic is that I get married on the 4th July and leave for honymoon on the 6th which will be a 10 day tour of scotland on the bike(any routes, places of interest, etc appreciated) I will take to dealers on Monday to check if I cant sort by then.

Thanks to Brian at Moto-tec, may need to call on you soon.

Thanks again will update soon

this is why i got rid of my 1150gsa had 2 brake servo's go, not a god feeling first time i went over a roundabout the second time just into the hedge even with residgule brakes trying to stop is not easy, i lost all confidence in the brakes so swopped her for a new 1200 gsa with out servo's, if i had'nt had servo's i would have keept her and now look forward to EWS & Fuel pump fail ha de ha But i must say that BMW replaced both the servo's for free on good will ,so good for them , didnt no the 1200 had the same prop !
So if they have failed ask for good will to get it fixed

cheers Badger
