Hi all,
just bought some aux lights and was wondering whats the best wiring option,

a) seperate switch on the bars
b) wire into dipped beam
c) wire into headlight

headlight is prefered, so how do i go about it? what fuse to wire to etc etc:nenau

hepl apprecialted very much:confused:

99 1100, with ABS

thanks for that Fanum,
so because im only having them on main beam, and only one pair of lights, just a 4 way relay is needed?

fitted but not wired yet, got them lit from an old battery to see how it looks.

Sorry, missed this...yes, four pin standard DIN relay required.

If switched from main beam circuit, take 12v from battery through 15amp fuse (ish...work out requirements but that's about right) to pin 30.

Take feed from main beam circuit through lower amp fuse (not entirely necessary) to pin 86 (fit switch in line as well if you want to be ale to control independently...can be useful for example if one bulb blows to turn off the other spotlamp)

Pin 87 is high volts output to live supply on spots (so thick cable)

Pin 85 is earth, either to frame or engine or best off direct to battery.

Do yourself a favour and DON'T USE SCOTCHLOCKS!!!

(great for temp repairs but unreliable in long run)

Take some time over it to get it neat, and although it may seem a little OTT, it may be worth tagging the wires with masking tape and writing on the tags what they are ....in three years time when you're tracing a fault on the roadside, you'll smile and think 'now that was a good idea!'

:)

PS I've got a feeling that having the lamps switched independently is actually a legal requirement but I'm not sure.

Have alook here if you're stuck for connectors and cable etc. I've always made the lights removable using water proof connector so if one gets bust you can just un-plug it and fit a new one:)
