Just got back from a short ride to the pub for a club meet and noticed that the bike is leaking oil from the black rubber gasket thingy (sorry to use such technical language!) on the shaft drive  . As I am due to be leading a ride this sunday I really need trhe bike so before I pay a visit to BMW Park Lane tomorrow I thought I would ask the clever folks who lurk on here. So any ideas and do i need to visit the Bank Manager on route to the garage.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom you have to offer.

How much leaking ??
check oil levels in rear bevel and gearbox .

If leak is just a smear, don't worry about it, it's common problem, try a search in the forum

Had a look and the oil level is fine, pulled the black thing back and can see no major leak. Assume ther is a seal in there somewhere which must be on its last legs. Will simply keep an eye on it and have the garage sort it when it goes in for new tyres next month.

Thanks for the advise, its appreciated.

Cheers

Just clean it, and youmay find it doesn't leak anymore.

Not worth having it fixed, doesn't mean it's on it's last legs, it may just have been "breathing" , a new seal can be just the same.
