HEX GS 911 - Advice

morning all

had a look at the older posts on the topic. I am totally new to this gadget but it looks like something I'd like to have especially for the diagnostics and some simple adjustments. I have a new GSA 1300 on order and according to @Onahi it should work fine.
Questions: I am seeing different versions for varying prices with the top of the range one coming in around £380. That's quite a chunk of change. Can anyone advise why this is the better one and ones around £300 are less so or why the difference in prices. Something to do with the updates maybe?

As soon as i brought my 1250RT i brought a GS911 wifi. it cost me £360 just over a year ago.
Its a great tool to have if like me you take the bike apart. Well worth buying.
I got the wifi so i could use it with my phone if i have a problem when out and about.

Had some questions............

I've had one a couple or so years. Wouldn't go anywhere without it.
For service. I scan the bike before the service. Check for faults. Never had any faults on my 1200GSA
And also reset the service reminder.
Change light, Change the TFT dash. The list is endless.
With the enthusiast version, You are limited to TEN VINs. I've used three now.
1. where do I plug it in on the GSA? The R1300 is much better. Lift seat, Unplg connecter, plug in.
2. how do i get the upgrades to the unit itsefl? You have a web you register the unit to. All updates come from that. Its simple. https://www.hexgs911.com/
3. Can I set up on my PC and link to the Hex? There's two options. I do both. Web on my laptop. But also on my Android Phone HEX app. which wirelessly connects to the bike and internet data base.
4. which version should i go for? HEXGS911WiFi
5. where is best to buy? Search around. Prices vary. I bought mine from www.sportsbikeshop.com

In the old days you had enthusiast versions (10 vins) or Pro (unlimited vins)

Enthusiast usually £300 -400 Pro £600+

They then did some offers for limited times - Pro at enthusiast pricing :thumb

Then they killed pro and went to enthusiast unlimited, with a subscription model £100 pa if i recall

Just to come in (Onahi covered most of it) on this - the USB Enthusiast device, is an Enthusiast device ONLY. This means, when you reach 10 VINs, you cannot upgrade and the device will only ever work on the bike's that are stored already. It's a cheaper option in the short term, but if you know you change bikes quite often, it will cost you later on.

As Santa said, since end of 2023, we've moved to a subscription model to provide the unlocked license of pro at a much lower entry cost point. Considering that the old model was a straight $400 purchase, this has been reduced to $100 (around 80 quid) per year. We are planning on releasing extra features for ProUnlimited, as this is a service that one is paying for.

One other thing, the R1300 has a overhauled diagnostic architecture. As such, the functionality is still quite limited from our side - as Ohani mentioned, the list of functions/features you've got on the R1250 models feels endless, which is not so much the case with the 1300 bikes - more on the currently supported functions/features for the R1300 on our function chart below:

thanks for this. So really we should wait a bit until HEX comes out with a newer model for the 1300. For me if I am spending this amount of cash I'd like something that can give me comprehensive diagnostics and ability to make changes.

Just checking my version (1.98) of Motoscan which claims to support 1250 (K50/51/52/53/54) & 1300 (KA1). But it'd be worth anyone checking how well it supports their bike before paying with hard cash. GS911 & Motoscan (+ OBD device) are quite different beasts and I'd agree the GS911 does more but Motoscan does what little I want quite well. The support from HEX Support on here is also a plus for the GS911.

They state that on the link I provided as well, they support the chassis numbers K50/1/2 etc, but they don't actually state support for the 1250, only the 1200, which corresponds with what some reports have said in the past. I do agree, the Motoscan is a very basic device which caters to a lot of people who couldn't care less about some of the newer bikes and their possibilities.
The nature of a forum is community driven, we do offer our help here, but mostly the community answers questions here. For focused support from ourselves at Hex, you can always send through an email on our [email protected] email. This creates a ticket that makes our tracking much easier of all information.

Quick question before I buy another GS-911 tool.

Are you able to put more than 3 heated grip settings on a R1300GSA with the present update?

Hi Nick

Unfortunately, not yet. The R1300 (and other 2025 models) are all equipped with the new XKOMBB2 instrument cluster, which features BMW's coding 2.0. With these changes, we're not yet able to offer the same support in terms of coding that we offer on the 1250 for example, but we've got a write up on this below with a more detailed explanation:

Not at all, our normal diagnostic functionality like service resets, ABS bleeds, faults read/clear, output tests, etc. are all supported:

It's just the coding that's the problematic part at this point, things like boot logos, heated grip customisation, tachometer customisation, etc.
