HID problem

Take the back off the light & try wiggling wires about if it comes on could be a looseconnector,to test it take it off completly & put terminals direct on a battery you'll know if it works or not ?
 
Biggest problem is it's very intermittent.
I must have started and stopped my bike a dozen times today but it was only the 3rd and 4th time that the light didn't come on.
In the past when it's not lit I've wiggled the wires at the rear of the lamp with no luck.

Had the same symptoms with my wife's Audi. Carried on like that for 6 months before it died totally. New ballast and happy days.

I'll have a look to see if I have a spare old one knocking about.
 
Exchanged a couple of emails with the retailer I bought from two years ago and he reckons that I either need to fit an inline resistor or buy a new unit as the one I have is no longer able to fool the ecu.

Here's what he says....

"the 55w ballast kit will work on the R1200GS.. however the ECU of the bike learns over a period of time that the load is less than that of a halogen bulb and builds a list of error codes in the SAM ( Signal Aquisition Module) subsequently doing as explained in previous reply. If you want to stop your bike from doing this either try fitting a load resistor or better still fit one of the latest type we now do. Things have improved since 2012.... the 55w kits were the first type for this issue but technology has moved on.. Our advice is to update the kit to avoid further issues. "

As per my previous post really. Just pull the multi plug connector off the back of the lamp unit, clean it, tweak the pins, reassemble.

Costs nothing but 10 mins of your time. To prove a point. take out the hid and put a normal bulb in it. bet that drops in and out as well.

Get the hid lit and waggle the same connector... see what happens... OR buy another unit and then later return to the same connector..

Sounds like a £ making excuse to me ??? connectors are 1st thing to check costs nowt,I brought a new HID but wanted the better reflector bulb anyhow,after fitting was the same as old one not coming on so wiring cleaned & crimped connectors tight at bulb no probs horses for courses :rolleyes:
