Hi

I fitted some HIDs last weekend (dip and main). They are very bright, but I have not found any problems with oncoming cars, so I am really pleased with them. However, one slightly odd thing is the amount of electrical interference they seem to be generating. Since fitting them I have found...

1) They set off car alams in the carpark at work when they are first turned on.
2) They seem to make my phone crash and switch off when they are first turned on.
3) They generate a whine on my Autocom (not really vey bad, just mildly annoying)

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

cheers
Darren

All this technology, just buy some more technology to solve the problems created by the technology. Why is nothing straight forward. ?

This is a first for these problems, seting alarms of is  are they fitted per instruction :mmmm

Hi

Zerocool - the Autocom issue isn't really that bad so don't worry if you were thinking about making the change. The whine isn't really any louder than the normal background hiss, just a slightly different pitch - I only persuaded myself it's the HIDs as the noise changes very slightly when switching the high beam on an off. It certainly wouldn't put me off the HIDs.

Les - I think the install is ok - the install is quite straightforward and I consider myself a relatively competent DIY mechanic (cue pride comes before a fall), and the HIDs are well designed using high quality plugs so I don't see what could go wrong.

I am not overly surprised by the interfernce - a friend had a car many years ago with OEM HID lights and you couldn't have the radio on when the lights were on. I just wondered if anyone else was having similar issues on their bike and if there was an obvious thing to look for (e.g. wrap ballasts in foil?).

For anyone considering HIDs - they are worth it! My interference isn't that big a problem really - certainly not as big a problem as not being able to see in the dark!

mine are next to the ignition box, under the tank, its never been an issue with anything,?

Hi there

Just as an aside I am a Ham radio user and when mobile (in the car) I frequently get interference on the ham radio when I meet/pass a vehicle with HID type lighting. It's not every set of HID lights and it can be car or lorry, don't think I have met a bike yet with HID's. This interference can also happen when using the amateur radio in towns where there are shops with display lighting.

Don't know if this will help, but another useless piece of information passed on!

Neil

No probs with my HIDs at all (as fitted by Les). Interested to hear about this though.

Will someone now say that it will affect your ring antenna & cause an EWS failure:P
