So after my hilltop visit 10 days ago i rode to the Ardennes on saturday and came home on sunday a 600 mile round trip.

Managed to ride all types of roads to get a real good feel for the new mapping and to be perfectly honest my opinion is, its ok.

Fuel economy has gone from 330 miles to a tank to 230 miles  crisper torque through the middle of the range and a slightly better manner through town at slow speeds, but still nowhere near perfect or as good as i thought it would be. I went with Worthing Welsh from this site who has exactly the same bike (without the Hilltop ) and there was nothing in acceleration between us or manners around town.

Given the option now i wouldn't have bothered to get it done, sorry if this doesnt conform to the norm but TBH i am a bit disappointed.

I will give Geoff a call to discuss but it is what it is so just thought i would report back my findings :thumb2

BTW it didnt spoil my fun and loved every minute of the trip

Perhaps it would have been fairer to call Geoff first before complaining on an open forum?

From what I've read on here, that doesn't sound right.

Get on the blower, and let us know what he says.:thumb

Fanum,

Like I said it was my feedback, should those that have good things to say check with Geoff first ? Once I've spoken to Geoff I will update again but I'm giving my opinion on a service I've received nowt more.

Another "headline thread"................... :blast

I'm with Fanum on this one - revert to the vendor first.............. :rob

"around town" ? What sort of test is that?

Al

He's only telling it how it is. It's not as if he has "slagged" anybody off !

On my recent biggish ride my fuel consumption had increaded considerably but i put that down to the fact that pushed the bike very hard for 700 miles and loved all the extra grunt it gave after the re map so yours does not sound right !

Was thinking of maybe getting this remap done at some stage so will be interested in the outcome of this. :)

if you want more power and more torque you've got to except you'll use more juice

In fairness to the OP, I'd be rather shocked at such a large drop in MPG as well......particularly as more power and more torque should NOT necessarily mean more fuel used.
As I understand it, (which admittedly may be incorrect) the fuel map puts in more fuel only when necessary, and can/will cut it at other points where the existing maps run too richly....in other words, the engine will run more efficiently.
It's certainly an oft reported thing in Diesel remaps.......the companies offering chips and/or remaps advertising power and torque gains AND increased MPG would not last long if they couldn't substantiate those claims :nono

Slight caveat to that old chap - all diesel tuning companies that I know of claim that their remaps optimise the fuelling so that if you drive in exactly the same manner as you did pre remap, you'll get better fuel economy. However, if you use all of the available power all the time, you're going to use considerably more diesel. Which is why I regularly used to get my remapped Golf TDI down to 24 mpg on the computer on my commute.

It's fine to share your personal experience, however it's also important to put it into context with what has happened with a large number of other folk who have done the same.

This is one of the first "dissatisfied" threads I've seen from someone who has had a remap from Geoff, which is not a bad record considering the number of folk on here who have been (and the legendary Tosser ability to complain :))

Most people rave about how their bike feels after a remap and most don't experience a huge change in fuel consumption (mine actually went up a bit). What you are experiencing would therefore appear to be unusual and you are quite right to go back to Geoff to see what can be done.

It's also worth remembering Geoff will put your bike back to standard and IIRC he also offers a refund if you are not happy with his work (but check that in case I'm wrong)

Most importantly, good luck getting it sorted. I hope you end up being as happy with your bike post remap as I have been with mine :thumb2

Indeed.....no denying that at all......it COULD be that our beloved OP was unconsciouisly enjoying the new power and lease of life breathed into his remapped bike that he increased the consumption by using all of the power a lot more of the time than usual......I wasn't going to suggest that to him as it is subjective and probably contentious.

My reason for raising the 'objection' was only based on fairness......I'd nearly always prefer to speak to the person who potentially caused a problem before going public with it, so they had the chance to resolve any issues :)

I really don't understand if you expected an internal combustion engine to provide more power and torque without using additional fuel, please convince me I'm wrong

every engine Ive tuned for power has used more fuel

At the risk of being slagged off for saying anything negative at all,I took my K1200s (now sold ) to Hilltop some time ago as I'd read how good the remaps are.The Bike was chugging when travelling at slow speeds, around towns and in traffic it was awful so I thought, get it sorted !
At the cost of £360,if my memory serves me well,I came away with a bike that was just the same as when it went in !!
So,fire away at me Chaps,I'm not doing anything to my GSA to upset the applecart !

i think there is more to this than meets the eye, iirc Lloyds bike was down on power before the hilltop tune, his before was 85ish hp i think.im sure if you not happy Lloyd geoff will unmap the bike and refund your money he offered me that option if for any reason i wasnt happy.
