R80ST, first registered August 1984.....Yippee....40 years old.
Download V112, for change of taxation class to Historic Vehicle, fill this out and head to the post office.
The nice man behind the counter says that the DVLA system that he has just accessed does not recognise the bike as 40 Y.O.
I eventually find a phone number for DVLA and by pressing the right combinations of number choices I get a call back in 15 minues.
The conversation wih the DVLA lady was both helpful and unhelpful in equal amounts.
PO man was correct, DVLA don't consider an 80ST 1st registered in 08/1984 aas 40 Y. O.
DVLA : referred to a document date of manufacture as 31 December 1984.
Me: Imposssible, the bike was registered in 08/84, you have just read that and confirmed it to me.
DVLA: Again, referred to some 'official' document about the date of manufacture.
Me: So, I have to wait until 01 January 2025 to re-register.
DVLA: Oh no, it will have to be 01 April 2025.
Me:????
DVLA: there has to be sufficient time after manufature for the bike to be sold and registered.
Me: But the bike is already manufactured and is already registered.
I finished the conversation with my head hurting, just trying to work out what was actually discussed!
I feel sure that we have crossed this subject before.
So, anybody else come across this and managed to resolve the problem?
With a 'definitive' document from BMW
With a 'definitive' document from the BMW Owners Club.
