Over the past years sports bike speed and horsepower has grown between manufacturers each outdoing the other.
With the announcement by KTM of the 1300 super, are we to see more HP from future GS's - like an adventure turbo ?
Maybe a yamaha tenere with the FJR engine!
Or a Hayabusa dirt bike ? (Maybe with a force field instead of a screen)

If you really want to see something mental look up the kawasaki H2R! Not an off roader but maybe a taste of things to come with the supercharger tech.

As for the GS's they have already lost the HP war and rightly so. HP belongs on a road/sports bike and not anywhere near dirt.

Horse power was never the war, only a battle within the dual sport war. You're right that the GS won't win that battle but it's been winning the war for a long time despite numerous design issues and quality problems over the various models.

bought my first 1150gs 13 years ago to get away from the horsepower thing, the 1150 at 85bhp was never lacking in real world power, in 2011, I upgraded to a new r1200gsa with 110bhp again a nice bike and to be honest I can count on one hand the amount of times it has done over 100mph (in Germany).
Just got a new 125bhp r1200gsa wc, not as nice to ride on the road, imho it is overtuned for its application and it is a sports bike engine not an adventure bike one.
It is actually nicer to ride in rain mode

I found that too, much preferred rain, feels like a proper GS again

That's what I thought

Rain = 1150 owner

Road = old 1200 owner

Dynamic = conquest sale to a Jap bike owner

:)

I like this quote quite a good reference, that's prob why mine is always in dynamic as I had an R1 before my 2 GSs
I must confess I've never used rain mode so I will give it a go, it's also rarely in Road mode

Very good :D and not far off the truth......................

Horsepower race? Well, it's always been thus, nothing new there so move along, nothing to see.................

Too much power for an adventure bike? Probably, yes but then all the big 'adventure' bikes are really tourers for peeps that don't want a tourer IYSWIM so, no, I don't believe they have too much power.

FWIW I run my 1190 in Rain mode when in town/heavy traffic, but defo not when out on the open road :green gri

personally I'm more interested in Torque figures than BHP..

I don't really get the idea of engine modes. Surely, as you get to know the bike you dial into the feel of a throttle and how it delivers power. And then your right hand is your regulator :nenau

Actually rain mode also makes the esa suspension a lot more compliant and because of the way the throttle responds it is less of an on /off switch , because of this it improves the way the bike changes from first up to second gear

Once enduro pro is fitted (after yer first service), one of its benefits is that the bike keeps what ever suspension setting you've chosen and doesn't alter it unless you over-ride it. So I may well choose to soften off or firm up the ride depending on the conditions, but (for me) I like a throttle action I know and has become ingrained in me if you like. Rather than swapping about between three different options ... :thumb2

I played with rain mode crossing a soaking wet alpine pass two up. At a time when I really wanted good throttle control / acceleration sense with shiny off camber hairpin bends, I was suddenly working with a throttle that was long and lazy and wasn't giving me the gas when I needed it.

We're all gods children, and we're all different :D but I like one throttle action, that I know inside out, and is programmed to my brain ... :thumb2

Which is why you sold a one throttle action bike and bought a bike with programmable throttle action. :blast :D

If you want esa yer stuck with riding modes too ...!!!
