His bike looks great, looks like a junkyard dog when you see it. I had the chance to buy it last weekend for a bargain price, hesitated and now he's decided to keep it and carry on racing.

What a fantastic thread, can't believe I've missed it. I've just started reading the book "BMW Motorcycles" detailing the history of all BMW bikes, so this is great.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes: I sold 3 M/Cs to get this 1962 R60. It was sold new in Southampton and appears to have had just 2 owners the last has owned the bike since 1990.
It seems original and is showing a nice patina (as opposed to neglect which isn’t the same as patina imho).
The only problem I have with it is the seat: only the Germans would commit such a heinous crime against aesthetics and fit a seat that turns a beautiful engineered and crafted M/C into the 2 wheel equivalent of Quasimodo solely in the name of comfort.
So I shall carefully remove the seat and all the clutter from the rear end and fit a single sprung seat to make the bike look like this
I blame Proff for getting me into the early airheads
