Just done the deed and bought myself a 2007 GSA :D pick it up next week, question is how many keys come with a new GSA ?
On the Jap bikes its always been 2 keys with the chips fitted but someone told me its 1 main key with the chip in and then a dummy key which hasn't a chip in but can work the locks etc.
Could someone just confirm before I pick it up...

Thanks

Someone told you kinda correct (im not sure they are right on the workings of the smaller "wallet" key).

However most dealers do a warranty claim to get you a second proper key so I would expect it to have two proper keys.

08 bikes are catching dealers out as they are now supplying 2 keys again, so new bikes are ending up with 3 keys as the dealers didn't realise and put the warranty claim in.:D

Two proper keys from the wonderful team at Southport Superbikes!:clap

Plus the usual placcy one!

The "wallet key" works exactly like the metal key and starts the bike no problem. Mine lives in my wallet would you believe? :thumb

As has been said, dealers supply two metal keys with a new bike. This seems to be an arrangement with BMW (UK) as the bike only comes from the factory with one metal key.

Only one key here!

"...This seems to be an arrangement with BMW (UK) as ......" Yes, it seems you are lucky because in France you only get ONE, AND the bike costs a lot less in the UK. I have just ordered a top-box - they must supply a (matching ?) key for that - we shall see.

Thanks for all the replies... looks like the bikes going to come with the one 'metal' key and wallet 'key'.
With the bike coming with some original warrenty still left, do you think Mr BMW would provide me with a 2nd metal key or are they a bit reluctant once the bikes been sold to someone else.... or is it just as well biting the bullet and paying for one to be cut and chipped?.....just wondered.

Ask your dealer. The worst he can do is say no. :)

Can I ask what might be a silly question but in the event of a EWS failure does the wallet key still start the bike??:)

I got 2 metal, fully functional keys and a plastic one from Vines when I bought mine. Without asking.

Not a silly question at all. The "wallet key" you were supplied with has a chip in it that is recognised by the bike's ECU as a vaild key to start he bike.

In the event of an EWS failure NOTHING starts the bike. That is the way it is designed. If the Antenna Ring fails, and you have a spare ring with you, then the wallet key will activate the ECU while the normal key will work the ignition. :thumb2

As there have been no reports of Antenna Ring failures since the recent BMW "Campaign" I hope they've fixed it - just the FPC to go then the bike is sorted.

OK Thanks for that. Mine is an 08 GSA used every day bought in May 7500 miles without missing a beat. Oh and I was given one metal key on purchase but isseued a further key on warrenty claim:thumb

BMW UK don't seem to make this easy do they.

I also heard they don't give you more than one fob for the alarm. Suppose they have to make the money somewhere.

Sept 08 GS
3 metal keys + 1 plastic key. All start the bike (I think that the 3rd metal keys was a mistake!!!)
2 Alarm remote controls
