How many miles after a tyre plug?

F* me you have to inflate the tyre before you’ve stuck the plug in? That’s if you have the ‘safety seal’ brand of course. Other brands are available!

Thanks Richard

In my case only 7 miles. I punctured my rear tyre on the new GS which had only 341 miles on it. Plugged the leak and it slowed the leak enough to get me home. New tyre needed. :blast:blast

For ease of use, sticky strings every time. I also carry a Stop'N'Go kit, but I'm not convinced it's the dog's bollox from various experiences with it. Like finding the plug wearing down faster than the tyre, to a mate having to replace a plug twice on a 200 mile ride. I recently used two sticky strings side-by-side in a puncture on a chum's bike. It did the job (after trying one string), whereas I think Stop'N'Go wouldn't have touched the sides.

I am of the same opinion, never had any joy with the stop and go kit, just use the sticky string now, with no problems, and believe me if you have read any of my ride reports you will know how badly i suffer with punctures.

In the many thousands of man miles running the ‘Wapping’s Wanders’ I think I can only remember two or three punctures and one leaking valve stem. The leaking valve stem was caused by the retaining nut not being tightened fully the day before, when a brand new tyre had been fitted.

Both punctures were repaired at the roadside, one with a stop n go, the other with sticky string.

The worse puncture I’ve seen was Steptoe’s on the first ‘Moroccan Dash’. There is a thread on it. I was riding behind him when the rear of his bike rose up, riding up the bolt from hell before it penetrated the tyre.

PS If anyone is ever stuck, carry a simple smallish self-tapping screw and a very modest screwdriver in your voluminous panniers. In the event of a puncture, screw the self-tapper into the hole. 99 times out of 100 it will hold and seal until a proper repair or tyre replacement can be made. Simple, quick and effective.

Palomine who runs a small bike spannering business also carries a self-tapper for puncture repair purposes. So that's two of you.

That's three of us :D

You have a £17k Motorcycle with your potentially priceless life on board - you may even have somebody else's life as well...... your tyre is say £180........

You repair it roadside with a £1.99 piece of Ting Tong Sticky shit string........

Then ask, " Will it be ok?"

Answer........ Get a new tyre.......

Because on the one occasion when it farts out, two up fully loaded on the M6....... you will sure as shit wished you'd have spent that £180.....

You make a valid point but, you get your £180 tyre and have the bad luck to get another
puncture on the way home, do you turn round and go get another £180 tyre or do you,
(assuming it's a straight forward puncture) repair it :nenau

So, too many options.....
Dynaplug? Hi tech option
Safety Seal? Bit dear
Crafty Puller? Unknown, from London so could be dodgy
Or Ting Tong shitty string from eBay ? Cheapest

Any views chaps and chapesses on what to buy?
