Well having had more tank bags, rear rack bags, roll bags, and soft bags that SWMBO has handbags I have decided that no matter what they look like a good old top box is the most practical thing for the LC GS,

So called my local friendly BM Bandit dealer asked for the price of the vario with key £430 FFS

So made mi mind up its either going to be the Givi trekker outback in Black 43ltr or the Motec Trax adventure in Black 37ltrs?

Which is the better one guys seen quite a few threads about the trekker but not many about the Trax?

Both about the £320 mark with rack and adaptor!

Hi Griff
Recently did the same thinking and I have the Givi Trekker box and it is sooooo much better than the BM offering :thumb. Nicely made, properly finished inside and looks the part on the bike. It also easily holds 2x full face helmets.
I did not look at the Motek box so cannot comment on that, but I can recommend not buying the BMW box, and the Givi is a good product at a better price.

Ha, I keep looking at my MTS and thinking the same thing.

I've always used soft luggage and got through a stack of it over the years, must have spent years of my life fastening bags to bikes, liked the convenience of a Ventura set up a while ago but the rack looks crap without the bag.

Keep looking at bikes with a box and thinking should I???????????????? But it's a top box, I've always thought they were the ugliest things in the world.

I'll bury my head in the sand a bit longer.

I have the Givi, and it's a perfect match for the BMW Ally Panniers if you have those.

The 58Ltr one will take two lids easily, but obstructs opening the pannier lids using the hinge method. The 43 Ltr one obviously doesn't hold two lids, and does not obstruct opening of the pannier lids.

I bought the vario from BMW Motorrad Store online for £330 posted including the rack. Not a fan of the Alu topbox on the GSA but I've always liked the vario luggage on the GS.

Road craft, why not look at the Hepco and Becker I had one fitted to a 1150gs and it was a great box. I probably should tell you this but on one occasion I didn't secure it properly and it fell off on the way to work. I was doing about 60mph when it fell it survived and was useable afterwards with just a small dent in the corner. I think they are about £220 from motobins.

Thanks for the feedback guys, so no comments about the trax?

So far I'm thinking. SW Motech alurack with Givi Trekker black top box, just know i can get a better deal on the Motech at the minute but not many guys using it?

Andy

Just go for a reasonably sized Givvi.
My E 46 is currently on its 5th bike . . . . its light and cn accommadate two full sized helmet if required.
Job done . . . what more do you need to know?

Take a look at Kappa . It's Givi's other brand name arms allows them to sell the same stuff for less . They call the Outback range the K Venture . All the fitting kits, racks etc are identical . :thumb

2nd hand Givi is the way to go....

Love a top box, they make the bike look shyte but they are so so practicle

Another vote for Holan.
Plus various sizes. They used to manufacture boxes for Touratwat

+1 for givi 42 litre trekker, bmw liner bag fits with a bit of room around it, totally dry , good build quality,

I can concur that the Kappa K Ventures are similar and cheaper than Givi. The Topbox is same as Giving. The 37ltre panniers, I bought 2 for my tenere but sold Tenere and bought GSA with all onboard. The panniers I can't say are better tbh. PS mine are for sale. I have the 46ltre Kappa Garda box same as givi Trekker and intend putting it on the back as soon as I find a way.

Which Trekker did you get the adventure or the plastic and Ali one?
