Incidentally it's not a problem to get the locks changed for a new key but you do need access to the old key to take the barrels out. Takes about 5 minutes.

Slight correction, you need the panniers to be unlocked, you don't need the existing key to remove the barrels. :bounce1

Are you sure about that. Mine were unlocked when I sold them. Then I got a call from Park Lane BMW to say they could not remove the lock barrels without the key. Makes sense as the barrels only come out if the tumblers are aligned.

Absolutely, as long as they are open you can get at the screws which hold the lock mechanism in.
You need a small screwdriver to depress the 'end' tumbler which holds the barrel in.

I got the instructions with my second hand panniers, tells you how to do it there!

I can Photo copy instructions if you need.........

Most difficult bit is working out which 'plates' (tumblers??) you need to insert to which part of the barrel for your key, English version of instructions could be much clearer!!!

I might have a pair of Vario panniers in great condition for sale (2nd hand) for the right price.

"RAF Biggin Hill has completely closed apart from a small section used by the Air Training Corps. "

In RAF terms true, but very much alive as a general aviation airfield I believe.

Like many accessories (and other goods) you will often find them quite a lot cheaper in the 'eurozone' - I paid around 475€ for standard vario panniers including keys and you paid £463 - which even at todays rate (1.336) is about 618€ - 30% more. I have found the same for many items, cameras, computer equipment, not to mention OF COURSE restaurants and hotels!;( I bought a number of RHD cars out here for family and friends and they were around 25% cheaper a few years ago but now prices have become similar.) If anyone wants a price for anything in France just ask! ([email protected])
