How sexy is that?

That photograph isn't my plate or anything to do with me Garry, It's a German doing the measuring, I wouldn't dream of using anything other than a Depth Micrometer.

The plate was made by the guys who do the Zeiss surface measurement machines and make their own surface measurement equipment and other gauging so they know what they're doing. A bit over the top for an Airhead but when you have access to something you have to make the most of it. The guys are ex Rank Taylor Hobson Engineers :thumb

You still drooling over that lovely bit of equipment??
I'm willing to bet you're caresssing it lovingly@6am on a SUNDAY morning :rob:rob

I used to build F1 magnesium cased gearboxes for Tyrrell back when Jean Alesi was driving for them

We had to make all our own tools to do this sort of thing at the circuits - i don't think we ever had a tool as complicated as this. :)

but you're right - there's nothing like a nice handmade oneoff part

i hope its at least titanium. :)

If I was to make these shimming plates, who would be interested in one?
Depending on numbers, I can stick a price on.
Cheers,
Michel

:blast

Now someone comes forward who can make these. Last weekend I placed an order for one at a machine shop. I suspect I'll be paying over the odds too.

Drinking cup carrier!!

Typical isn't it. when you want one no bugger has them. When you get one their all over the place. That looks pretty cheap but is obviously a far lower quality to mine :D

:admin you see. I get an edit button next to the quote button on any posts in the Airhead section, unfortunatly I clearly can't be trusted with even that small amount of power :blast I'll have a proper mod telling me off for that now :D

Your link was this one:- http://www.bmwboxersupplies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2/products_id/68

Voyager was interested a while back. I don't know if he sorted himself out though.

Thanks, but I have ordered one from 'Boxer Supplies' in the Netherlands.

As they only take cheques / Bankers Orders - and those have to clear before they send the goods - it will be a while before the shimming plate arrives.

I'll post a picture when I've got the plate.

Bob.

I got one made up in work for nowt of some aluminium alloy plate. Even though the holes are correct in dimensions and axis, does the plate have to be a certain thickness?

I could put it on a horizontal grinder to size it.

The thickness isn't important but you will need to know its exact thickness because it gets used in the shimming calculation.

You can use international bank transfer using their IBAN & BIC codes... simpler.

John

Not only simpler . . But it seems they can't handle a cheque for under 100 euros (which seems a bit strange).

See the following e-mail - my cheque was for £59.90 (they take euros, sterling or US Dollars).

I take it that a Bank Transfer is a SWIFT Payment - which incurs a charge of £15.00 (or is it £20.00 nowadays ?). This is becoming unattractive.

Received today . . . . .

Het commentaar voor uw order is

Hi Robert,

I recieved you check in good order; but there seems to be a problem. The bank can not handle checks under 100 euro! So it is not possible for me to cash your check.
There are a few other options:
Bank wire (using BIC and IBAN),
Manual credit card payment (you send me you details by mail or phone(+5% administrationcosts)),
Send money by registred post.
Please let me know which option is best for you.

Kind regards Petra

I think you will find its the cost of processing a cheque from a non-Euro country. Cost about 28 squids to cash a UK cheque in France!

There is no Swift charge involved in an IBAN transfer. It takes 3-4 working days.
YOUR bank may make a charge for this transfer but it should be nominal. Between Euro country's its the cheapest and simplest way to send money.
Some UK banks are still a bit thick when it comes to IBAN transfers. I was trying to send a mate some money and in the end he opened a UK Euro account to receive the money.

In the past, I have had stuff from Matt before I sent the money!! Top man.

Swift bank - IBAN - BIC Transfers

I know from ireland when i send money to someone who has a
IBAN ( international BANK Account Number ) and a BIC ( Bank identity Code ) it only costs abouts .75 Cent and you can send 12500 euro for that whats more if you bank has internet banking you can probably do it on line like you can here in ireland (AIB)
and you already have a iban and BIC numbers if you have a bank account , the banks in the UK dont want to use that system because the other way they can get bigger charges out of you
