Everything seems to come off OK with the exception of the fixings under the tank - do you have to get the tank off? Doesn't look like it'll be much easier then:confused:

My steptoe head guards are waiting?

from memory the the front is held on with bolts they may go through a sub frame (not too sure of this ?) so move the tank back for easier access and all will be revealed :)

On one side the bolt is accessed by removing the rubber bung at the end of the crashbar & using a long extension bar down the length of the tube, if I remember correctly.

The other side has a simple bracket on the end of the corresponding bar...

I performed a pre-paint practise installation of Steptoe's headguards today and only had to remove my OE plastic headguards and wally flaps, plus a bit of reaming and filing, to get them on. ADV crash bars untouched. :nenau

BTW: If you want your crash bars removed then yes, you do have to remove the tank for ease of working. :thumb2

crash bars

They live up to their name, a crash at speed and these things dig into the road and flip the bike upsidedown with maximum damage inflicted. Good if it falls over but other than that get rid Steppers head gards are the way to go.

Have you seen that happen? Dropped mine at 50+ in the wet on the Nurburgring on Hepco and Beckers and it slid very nicely, picked it up and rode off?

How do you get these Steptoe headguards? PM'd him with no response and they're not on his site???

We aren't talking about hepco and beckers, davegs is talking about ADV bars ( what the thread is about) which do slide nicely on a nice surface. But all too easily flip over if on a road surface.

I've had a few bikes in that have been written off with major clock, screen handlebar and upper fairing damage caused by the crashbar design - which flip the bike over due to the protruding top section of bar.

Davegs bike has done the very same thing - i did warn him.

The headguards are sold out, hence why they aren't on the shop website.

As Steppers says, I have indeed had it happen at 85 plus damage as per Steppers said smashed lights dash etc it Peru, lots of gaffer tape got it goping and the Tourtec owner in Santiago said " thats what a GS should look like!!". Anyway with some s/h bits and all done by me worked out at over £600! so been an ins job obviously a write off, Go for Steppers head gaurds when available just the job, and don't hit any Peruvian dogs! (very solid!! that's the dogs!).

I've got a pair of aformentions guards that I would be willing to sell... but ... and Steptoe might remember this (or not!) one of them was broken when I bought it from Mr S.

The underside fixing on one side is snapped - you can't see it from the side and it's 'non-functional' anyway as it's completely fixed by the front and rear bolts.
