Mate, I've been following this thread with interest...this has got to be one of your most complicated projects?....trying to design, and form, a curved hugger out of metal has got to be some brain frazzling task!

and yes, this one has REALLY frazzled my brains - it looks easy but it isn`t, I think I have taken something on which is quite possibly at the edge of my IQ and time availability.............

Can I offer a suggestion???
For a few quid from several sites you can buy pre-formed ally mudguards for classic and off road bikes, Sammy Millers for one.
Take a section of this, match it up to your stays ( which look great BTW) and hey presto you have a hugger - hard work done.
Return the armadillo to the wild, where it belongs!!!
The part in my photos is excess from a rear guard off my Tiger Cub but you can get wider or with just a little effort it could be widened to cover the wheel.
There's a rope in my garage which I'll get out so when the mob come round to hang me for treason they won't need one, I'll also nip off to Homebase for pitch folks and if needed, I'll light the fire too!

Make sure all the neighbours wooden fences are in a pile at the bottom of the telegraph pole we are going to tie you to

Johnnyp i really appreciate your reply and the time you have taken to post the images - I'm going to crack on and preserver as i have got this far and i hope to get it sorted as an alternative for the lads - i may fail but it wont be for the lack of trying! Thanks again for your help

That's an amazing demonstration of ingenuity. You are certainly on track to solve the problem from a technical perspective. But I have to question the aesthetics. The current GS design utilises complex curves and sculpted surfaces, to my eye this technique of simulating curves with flat surfaces will contrast this very strongly.
Taste is personal and for me that contrast is too dramatic here. However I'm sure some will see this as a design statement that enhances their bike.
I think this is the same reason why folks aren't rushing to buy the Ilmberger Hugger (apart from the excessive price), it doesn't integrate visually with the bike even though it is technically functional.
I have a couple of Cymarc farkles, the crud catcher and the radiator guards, and am delighted with them and how they look, your machine is just amazing, but this one isn't for me.

Mark, 11/10 for the enthusiasm, and the product looks functional, but it's not for me. I'm sure you'll sell a fair few though.

well, I `lost` saturday - god knows where it went - but I`m now thinking if I should have the bracket on the outside or the inside - there`s pro`s and cons for both I think.
It will be dictaded by other issues I feel but for now which looks the best? And I stress - its only a prototype (well, several actually - take a look at all the ones I made which I wasn`t happy with...........)

I agree with nutty totally 10/10, and the amount of hrs you have put in, what ever you sell it for you'll be at loss so quite clearly you do all this for the love of it rather than a financial gain.

Puig want nearly £200 for there plastic hugger !

I`m kinda thinking that.............
I think I will finish the `concept` hugger because its now taunting me (come on Hooton, think ya hard enough to sort me out eh.....? - these are the noises I am now hearing in my head) and THEN I will make a simple one using a generic hugger off the `tinterweb and mate it up with my lovely bracket.
Find a similar texture plastic as per the front mudguard, and use your bracket and your onto a winner, keep the retail costs competitive to others and it would be a big seller.
You have the skills and the brackets done ! There ain't nowt to stop you coining it in.
