Is anyone doing this?

As it stands, I'm planning on doing it on my R1200GSA, and riding down from London. Plan to leave London on Fri 17th July after work to get across to France, and then bomb down Sat / Sun for the event prep day on Mon 20th.

After that, no idea about coming back; will likely take the rest of the week off and go from there.

Anyone else doing it?

But if someone is driving down with a van or trailer, then I'm could be pursuaded to share cost & driving perhaps

I was going to do it but pulled out for this year. After tackling some tricky terrain in the Balkans I figured my off roading skills were not yet up to par and my budget is also a bit stretched at the moment so I plan to improve my off road skills over the remainder of this year. I'm disappointed not to be going though. :tears

Im going.
A group of us are joining up down there (4 couples) 2 of them are on this forum and the 4th is a GS owner....
We did it last year and had a great time.
Im taking 3 smaller bikes down in a van but if you want to chuck a bag or some spares in I can transfer it to and from to save you loading up too much.
Equally one of the other couples who are dragging a couple of bikes down too and are probably nearer to you in Harefield and have a great big fek off Merc Sprinter camper.
I will have a decent stand and a tool kit for our needs so feel free to get in touch if you need a spanner or two.....:augie
We cross Thursday 16 and will get 'close' on Saturday 18 ... we are camping at Quexians but some of the others are doing the main hotel.
Not coming back until 27th though .... going to spend a bit of time trail riding before and after HUMM.
PM me if you want to swap moby numbers etc .... see you there!

I'm going down there too, leaving after work on the Friday to get the ferry and an hour or two into France, then the rest of the way Saturday/Sunday. I've a mate joining me on his GS1150, anyone who wants to hook up for the ride down is welcome.

Look forward to seeing the rest of you down there too.

Cheers, Andy

Hi there

sorry a bit behind the times....been behind the goss due to internet issues (thanks France Telecom!)
Anyway, i am doing the HUMM this year on my GS650, hubby on his XR650 and a friend with a pillion on a KTM 990.
We are doing the off road bit which should be interesting........

HUMM - Quick report

So how did it go guys?

Something there to please everyone really, awesome roads & trails. In my case the trip was slightly marred by ripping off "Chunks" bashplate & then holing the casing on the very next rut & dumping oil everywhere! Lots of :comfortreceived from my team and others. Still, it means I get to go back in 10 days to pick the bike up.......

In short: -
- On Road, won by 3 guys called "Plumb Crazy" with a total of 2815 points :clap. 2nd place went to "Grantys" with a total of 1811. 5 teams took part.

- Off Road over 645 was won by "Two Ians" - 2213 points :clap. 14 teams took part.

- Off Road under 645 won by "Mushman Candidates" - 2180 points :clap. (These guys were 2nd last year & really out to win) 21 teams took part.

The whole area is a maze of trails, some mapped & some not. Being spoilt by our very own OS maps means you can easily get somewhat frustrated......i.e. rather lost :augie

Lots of guys trailered their pogos down & had an absolute ball, if I go again it'll probably be on the XChallenge to fully exploit the area.

I'd like to say a special thanks to Tim Skilton who bailed me out big style by coming out to rescue me & nearly missing the celebrations! Tim runs www.locoformotos.com & a few guys hired KTMs from him just for the event. Genuine nice guy & got to be worth a look if you don't want to use your won bike!

Of all the pics to represent the fun, its got to be this one below...........Rob on an XRV........

Have a look here for more and some taken enroute to the event.

In summary, great time, not too dear & well worth a look if you fancy something different that isn't too regimented. :thumb

Event was great fun. Rode there and back from London. Well worth doing - recommended. The sign up page for the 2010 event will be posted on www.horizonsunlimited.com soon.

The R1200GSA is one hell of a bike off road, and loving the challenge it presents (i.e. its weight). Binned it plenty of times, and only a few battle scars on the crash bars and head protectors. Some one ask Pinkytiff what happened to his GS. LoL !!

Fantastic scenery and trails + awesome twisties...

Got nicked by bent french coppers for made up speeding offence at last peage before calais on way home - 90euro cash fine - passport confiscated until been to cashpoint. Gendarmes didn't have my reg no. or any evidence of the speeding. Got receipt, but Gendarme refused to show his ID. Bent cnuts.

Here's a few piccies taken from a Blackberry on thrown on Photobucket for your enjoyment in a hurry:

En route home @ Limoges. Didn't need the spare rear knobbly i carted from London and back, but a bit borderline. Those sharp rock trails really attack your tyres.:
