HUMM 2010

Well i've just been looking at ferry costs ect, and portsmouth-bilbao comes in around £360 rtn, which would then leave an easy days ride across the Pyrenees to the start area.

Or so i'm lead to believe....
 
I've been thinking about it and could throw (sorry strap the bike's into my van)

but I still need to work on how next year is going to pan out.

Yep you're probably about right with the ferry, I've done Bilbao & Santander twice in the last few years. Its well doable in a day to La Molina. Four of us already posted & I think thats the max team size? I spent quite a while in the area after the last event and the whole place is riddled with tracks, may anyone be interested in spending either longer in the area or perhaps even trying to find "trails" back through France?

Bilbao to the Pyrenees shouldnt be too bad, I've not been that way, but there are some beautiful roads in the north and east of Spain. I've not looked too closely at the HUMM event to know where it starts, but it shouldnt be too bad. £360 seems like a good price too :)

Pinky, do you know the rules about off-road riding over there? Is there an equivelant to an OS map for the area? HUMM looks great and offers good support, I'm just toying with the idea of something more adhoc...
 
I was planning on riding down, will be doing it on the 800gs.
Figured 2 days to get there, 3 days for the event & a few more days to stay there after to recover & play int hills.

not looked into where to stay yet but would anyone consider camping??

Pinky, do you know the rules about off-road riding over there? Is there an equivelant to an OS map for the area? HUMM looks great and offers good support, I'm just toying with the idea of something more adhoc...

Hi, There are maps available from Michelin but when you see them you realise how spoilt we are by the standard of OS maps! From my limited experience of offroad in Spain (this area at least!) all tracks/lanes/trails can be used, even when they cross private land. In this case a black & white sign means you can use the track to cross the land but must stay on it. Quite similar to our BOATS I suppose. Cross the border into France though and I believe its much more controlled - maybe someone else can comment?

My ideal would be to tack time on to the front or back of the event.....or both.......last year I (light) camped for a 5 day minor road route south through France and took 4 days back north again.

I've still got the maps for the area east of the hotel, 2010 I believe all the trails that will be used lay to the west.
 
I would be interested in joining up with you guys for this. At this rate it looks like it will be 2 or 3 teams joining up from here.:D
I wont be able to confirm until in the new year, maybe not until February.

I know the police in Spain can be a bit more picky than they can else where in Europe, had a friend over there trail riding with a group back in October and apparently they all got fined for not having wing mirrors on their (trail) bikes... I wasnt sure if they'd be as sniffy about the tracks...

£1556 to spain :eek: you could get your bike to the USA and back for less :rolleyes:

The police seem's to be pulling UK bike's in this area of spain

90e for not having a mirror and up to I hear 300e for not having a GB sticker and your bike's paper work with you.

The police are on the ball in spain,They have even been looking at our tax disk

If you wanted to do it slightly cheaper (but at the cost of more time) Portsmouth - St Malo return with a 4x4 and trailer would only be £882. It's 578 miles from St Malo to Foix so two fills (fill up in Andorra and save a packet - not VAT on fuel)

it'd be an easier drive with two sharing the driving...

just a thought.
 
Hi guys

After riding my gs on salisbury plain (trying to keep up with Pinkytiff and Wreford :blast ) i could be up for this event. I would need to wait until start of next year to sort out what holiday im having with the other half. But this sounds very interesting.:thumb2
