HUMM 2010

HUMM

hi there im definately up for it. im not really that bothered which ferry we take but i would prefer the ferry which would give us the most/best trail riding before we get there instead of motorway

the saturday ferry would be better for me back so i can get back to work on the monday but if we have to take the monday one its not too much of problem.

as for the trophys im not really interested in winning i just want to go and do as much trail riding in the week as possible and have a laugh , and as little falling off as possible ( although i expect there to be some by me)

just to let you know i'm easy going, really enjoy it when people get stuck ( even if its me ) and enjoy a few beers :beerjug:

not fussed how many in the team - more the merrier

let me know if your up for it

Not wishing to hijack this thread too much, but what temperatures can I expect at night & day in that part of Spain? Yeah, I know, go Google it, but I'd really like to hear from people who went last year. Are we talking 25 - 35 degrees or more?

FWIW I'm doing the Portsmouth <-> Santander route on 21 June & 2 Aug, bumming around Spain with tent either side of the HUMM but staying at the hotel for the event.

Cheers!
Mup.

Its warm for sure. Can't recall exact temperature, but 25ish deg C not too far off the mark.

Was warm in Rallye2 suit with vents open wearing a single wicking layer underneath. Too hot to stand around with jacket on, but fine for riding in. Can't remember if wore a jacket in eves, but think maybe not.

Bear in mind you are up a bit higher - cant recall exact altitude - around 2,000 metres so cooler than sea level.

Cheers. 25-ish is fine, I was worried about high 30s or low 40s. Not sure which is worse in that weather - camping or riding! ;o)

I am definately going with rossi. Im riding down to plymouth friday afternoon and getting the ferry friday night. Then - apparently - as i dont know where we are going or how to read a map - we are riding to spain on some trails he has mapped out - i cant bloody wait

Nick, I've taken the long range tank off so we will both have the same range. I can't manage to drain both tanks without getting off for a walk at the end of the 1st tank anyway, although I am trying out a sheepskin seat cover.

I put the 14 tooth on the front; you are right gas mileage improves with the lower gearing. Makes it more fun too. :D

I have a screen ready for you. What is your address? I'll stick it in the post.

600+ miles, ferry to spain. Working on ways to break it up a bit. Easy enough to bash down to Bordeaux in a day leaving half a day and some trails for Sunday. Fortunately the pics on my phone of Austin Vince's routes came out fine so I have a bit more to work with for when we get there. Got me a new GPS specially as the old one died and the 2nd hand ebay purchase wasn't much better so got sent back. I will get some routes programmed in before we leave.

Should I pack a bottle? :jager

Not me...
I'm on a team invite, from Austin Vince, to do this years PyreKnees UP so I'll get to see what you lot will be paying to do next year on HUMM 2011

We head out this weekend for the event next week, if this years HUMM looks anything like the PKUP you guys are in for a cracking time!

Have fun and I look forward to reading your reviews later!

you better pack more than one bottle - ill need that to numb the pain in my arse from riding a thousand miles in two days on a razor blade!!! :jager

i wasnt that bothered about the tank range - i was making a frame for a 10 litre jerry can to go where yours went but it will weigh less now

i have bought a airhawk seat so i am hoping it works as i felt violated by the time i got to ripley :rob

i ordered my tyre today - i went for the army special instead of the e-09 - we'll have to see how that goes - i'm going to keep the knobbly on and see how i go

what sat nav have you bought ???

12 yr old balvenie do you? :jager

I've gone for the low tech (budget) sheepskin seat cover. £12 on ebay from Lambland. 10 minutes with a bradawl and some elastic, then a quick trim with a pair of scissors. We will need to compare seats for comfort. Still don't think I could go the whole 280 miles I can get with the extra tank fitted, however if you have a way of carrying extra fuel I can always put it back on.

I bought the Garmin Dakota 10. Only £135 from Handtec.co.uk. It looks like a big improvement on the Etrex series.
I already have the mapsource CDs but the detail for Pyrenees is pretty minimal so I am busy trying to program in a few routes for the extra days.

Also working on phone, camera and AA battery charging from the bike.

How do you like the exhaust? If you really want a laugh, remove the insert. You, and everybody else around, will need earplugs. I tried it for a couple of days but in the end it was too loud. Good fun though.

We're Off

Thats it, jus off to rv with Losttheplot to get the ferry. We've got 600m of what we believe are "trails" to ride, the route finishes at Rocomadur, then another 300m to La Molina. Hope to make it by Monday next! Then another week to wind our way back north if my get up & go hasn't completely got up & gone.

See ya'll in 3 weeks ;)

right - this exhaust - i dont think i have got the same one as you cos its really fookin loud but the low end response is so much better :D . did you do anything to yours to quieten it down???

as for the charging stuff - ive got a 12v socket on my bike if that helps so could use that if you want

took my gear lever off the bike today cos it was getting hard to change up - it was well bent and was hitting the engine case - so its going to have to be straightened cos they are on backorder - typical

what time is the ferry and what time will you be getting there

see you friday

Sounds like you might be mising the insert from the end. When I took mine out it was LOUD but very entertaining. With it in, it is somewhere in the middle. I have ear plugs.

I'm good to go with charging too, I just had to get a cig lighter socket sorted so I could run my chargers.

Rub the bent bits of the gear lever with fairy liquid, then heat until it goes brown. This will soften the lever enough so you can straighten it. Put it in a vice and use a monkey wrench / adjustable spanner to give leverage. Failing that a hammer usually works.

Our trip went something like this:

Friday- Overnight on the ferry to Roscoff, sleeping on the floor in the cinema

Saturday - Blast down beyond Bordeaux, wild camp in the woods

Sunday - Find a 17mm spanner to remove Nick's front sprocket. It was on back to front causing the chain to munch the alloy rear sprocket. Once that was sorted it was back on the road to Llavorsi (base for HUMM 2008 and 2011). We were warned that there was a fiesta on and we would be kept awake all night so headed up for a wild camp in the hills. Then I realised it was my wedding anniversary :blast so it was on to Andorra to get a phone signal. We ended up camping next to a bunch of Ozzies and kiwis on a van tour :beerjug::jager:beer:

Monday - More riding in the mountains then a road blast across to La Molina for HUMM 2010.

Tues, Wed, Thu - the HUMM. Team X Rated managed to defeat team Pinkytiffs lost the plot, winning the Xchallenge Challenge :JB

Fri - 6 of us leapfrogged up the motorway to Route 66, a bikers hotel near Limoges. I won't try to describe Route 66, a unique place that just has to be experienced.

Sat - up to Roscoff for the ferry, this time with a cabin.

Sun - I go 20 miles home, Nick has another 300 to go.

Final count - frequent sore heads, 4 toasted tyres, 3 mirrors, 2 sore arses (but watching Nick squirm on his seat in my mirror I think my £12 sheepskin proved equal to the £150 airhawk :) ), 1 bottle of 12 yr old malt.

Big thank you's to Grant and Susan from HU for putting it all together.
Thanks also to Sara for filling my Scotoiler and the use of her Cramp Buster, it's a keeper.

Glad you got back ok guys, we ended up doing a mega mad run of 500 miles on the saturday from Route 66 and made it to the Chunnel for 9pm (we were supposed to be on the 3pm train the next day!). Thankfully they put us straight onto the next train for free (love the chunnel for this) :thumb2

Cheers for the great time in La Molina all, was great to see some familiar faces and make some great new friends :).

The off roading was great although sometimes tricky for us and the GS's and the scenary was awesome. HIghly recommend doing the humm to anyone :)

Sunday - back on the road to Llavorsi (base for HUMM 2008 and 2011)./QUOTE]

Excellent photos from both you and Wookie. Yep you're right Llavorsi is the base for next years HUMM as this event is based on the PyreKnees Up set up by Austin Vince and Lois Pryce. From your pics it looks like you've riden some of the area that is involved, I recognises a couple of the shots.

It's such an awesome area to be able to ride, I think we covered something like 380 miles over two days and hardly saw anyone other than other riders on the Knees Up. There are one or two camp sites and picnic areas but other than that it was the odd 4x4 or farmer.

This really is an amazing event no matter what its named and I've been privilaged enough to get an invite back on the Knees Up next year.

Glad you guys enjoyed the HUMM - I know next years is going to be fantastic!

HUMM2010 Antics - Check this YouTube vid out

- I was riding my mates 1200GSA up a steep rocky climb - too fast - hit a large tree root and got pinged off to the side.
- Binned it and managed to face plant a tree and invert the bike and get one of the pots over the bank and embedded in the soft ground.
- Took 7 people to lift the bike back onto the track.
- Damn those 12's are heavy.
- No damage to me or the bike.
- Funny thing is that it's my mates bike. He bottled the climb and we swapped bikes so he could go on my 650XC.

Thanks to all those that helped levitate the GS and for PinkyTiff for filming.

Enjoy!

Mike.
