Great news i have bought a 59 Plate GSA, and will be picking it up on Saturday this week.

Chuffed to bits, and to be fair there is a story behind the bike.

Will tell all, when i get chance.

Thanks to all for your advise and support.

Very excited, and i cant wait.

Great feeling when you sling your leg over the one you love for the first time :)

Well done as well as my 09 plate 1200 I am having a Y plate 1150 delivered today, so as you can guess I quite like them!!!

The Story Is

Well i rode the bike home last night and it just brilliant.

The bike is the one that was on ebay from the Napoli that was grounded off devon.

It in great condition, and is a 2007 model which was dentined for south africa prior to the ship crashing into the Devon coast.

However it has been registered as a 59 plate, and only had 116 miles on the clock when i collected it.

It is in Alpine white, which is the best colour in my opinion and came with the extra lights fitted and two orignal boxes.

The best bit is you wouldnt belive how much i paid for the bike, it was seriously cheap.

What can i say, i have owned over 300 bikes in my life and i have finaly reached the pinacle of motorcycleing excelence.

Its love, and i have even named the bike.

Once again thanks for all the advise i have been given, it was invaluable.

:):):):):):):)

Lets see some pictures then!

300 bikes... bloody hell... I thought I was bad at around 60

Hi Simon

Sounds like a bargain. I'm sure you asked the previous owner but did the bike get dunked in the salty sea? If it did I hope you gave the electrics a good once over for water damage. Cant see the canbus system liking a salty soaking.

Cheers :beerjug:

Its ok i think it was from Motoworks me thinks?

I remember the news reports talking about how people should beware as the salt would likely completely feck the bikes up. I suspect it was to reduce the number of "salvages" :D

What a bike to get, some good history with it. Well done.

..not that the salt will matter, BMW's are made from recycled U-boat parts anyway aren't they? :hide :D

Weekend Ride

Been out on the bike the weekend, and it great even though i am running it in.

Mileage has now jumped from 116 miles to 550 miles, and it just great.

Two problems though

Fuel Guage doesnt work ?? (its a 2007 model)

How long am i supposd to run it in for ??

Thanks

hi simon, i thought you may want to know that on channel 5 at 9pm tuesday there is a show about the the napoli container ship that ran aground in devon.
could see your bike :)

To run mine in, I was told by my BMW dealer to keep it below 5000 revs and to go on roads with varying gear requirements, so hills, twists and the like, make sure you are using all your gears basically.

Do it for 500 miles then get it in for your initial inspection.

I'm guessing salt has got into your fuel gauge instruments from when it was in the sea :D

Doom and gloom

I don't think that the bikes were in the sea, were they? I thought they came out of a floating container. Otherwise they would be ruined and well beyond economic repair.

This is the one that was on EBay?

Its cheap for a reason, it was full of salt water at one point in its life I just hope it was stripped and cleaned/oiled before re-commissioning

It would seem that some of the 1200's corrode without ever seeing the sea, so if it looks ok now, with no hidden horrors, then I'd guess it'll be ok. Be sensible to get all the fluids ie brake / oil / gearbox / FD changed asap and then again after a few miles. A replacement battery might be sensible too.

The vast majority of the containers on the MSC Napoli never went anywhere near the water and were craned off during the salvage operation (my company was involved). "General Average" was declared on the ship meaning most cargo was written off by the insurers even though it was perfectly fine and never damaged.
