I seem to have an unnatural interest in the F800gs. So coming from a 1150gsa am I going to enjoy it or regret it.:augie

Have fun

I popped in to my local BWM dealer to chuck my leg over today and I like it. So wots the pannier choice (Not the BWM type)

It's a bollox bike. Sack O'shite.

It can only be compared to the Demm Dove or possibly ( on a none pished day) a Mobylette.

They're shite. Go out and buy a bag of firewood with a model aeroplane engine attached for the same effect.

So Klanky not a bad BWM then:D

Hepco Becker do a neat set of quick release pannier rails so you could use your existing panniers should you decide to go for one.

I'd highly recommend a long test ride though Wayne, completely different bike from what your used to and being a gentleman of true Tosser proportions you may find it not what you expect :augie

Good luck anyway:thumb

Yes a long test ride is wot I have in mind. I still like the 1200gsa but Big Money:eek:

Thanks Roger:thumb2

[Sober answer]

It's a good bike, Wayne. But you'll find it very different to your boxer. I'd rate it as a good all-round bike IMO. It does everything that I could want from a bike.

Regarding panniers, I've just ordered a set of aly panniers with a Holan frame from Roger at Ardcase ('redcap' on here). He'll do any size and any colour for you.:thumb2

Have a lookee here (piccies of 800GS with panniers at post 296):

Hi Wayne

I went from a 1150GSA to a 800GS, no regrets after one year of ownership :)

then I had a test ride on a KTM990SMT last week:augie

Have a good long test ride

I too am currently into week 4 of F800GS ownership, having just sold an 1150GSA which I owned for 5 years. First impressions having completed 1000miles so far, no where near as comfy as the GSA and the seat is an instrument of torture. It don't half go though, really nippy and with the Remus pipe on it sounds like an angry wasp, encouraging hooligan type riding antics. However, it requires a fair bit of work on the gear lever (very slick box unlike the tractor like GSA) to keep it on song and I do miss the lazy torque of the GSA, so it does require a bit more effort. You will certainly be riding it quicker on the twisties and the weight difference makes it feel like a 125. Both wife and son (he being 6'4") say the rear seat is better than the GSA and It feels much more stable two up than solo. Fuel consumption is pretty impressive too 16lt tank and I hit reserve around 160-70 miles. No regrets so far, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, but if you do a lot of regular long distance touring or motorway work I'd stick with the GSA.

Enjoy the test ride, you won't be disappointed...

I know you said not BMW panniers, but i did get them for mine...in black, they extend out for more luggage (big handbag space needed being a girlie) i am very pleased with them, take a look before you say no.

Keep the post running, love to hear what you think about it after your test ride.

Well I took it out for just over 2hr on A and B's Motorways and some real good twisties and I love it apart from the seat (A Sargent Seat would be the order of the day) Yes its different from the 1150gsa but so it should its a different bike, but saying that the power from that twin surprised me and the gearbox a very big improvement on the gsa. The Bmw panniers are not to my liking. I like the Trax type though. Wind from the front could be sorted with a taller screen but apart from that A BIG YES FOR ME:D

Had mine for two weeks now, rained every feckin day ive been out on it and with the "on, off, on off" throttle:mad: it is starting to un nerve me to the point that i think i might have made a mistake:blast buying it, slow corners in the wet are terrifying:eek:

on the move it is great although the BMW aftermarket screen is crap and very noisy.

OE tyres havent instilled a great deal of confidence so they might get changed soon:(

dont compare this to a 1150 or 1200:rob different bike:thumb2

all this sounds quite negative but i have to say it sounds great:thumb2 i find the seat ok to good, and the fuel economy is superb:thumb2

once it is personalised to suit you, it is hell of a lot of bike for your money:clap

IMHO

Richie:beerjug:

oh yeah got the plastic boxes on mine when i bought it, would prefer alloy boxes as the plastic ones are ok, just.

from 1150 to 800 too

Jumping from 1150GS (not A) to the 800, found out that I could hardly use it for long trips, it is my idea that it is made mostly for riding in the city and short tours about 100klms. If you need more from your bike, change the screen, fix the seat, I also changed the case because it could hardly carry my helmet.....
On the other hand, I enjoy the feeling of its accelerating speed, much better fuel consumption, lighter than the 1150 that helps in the traffic, it is finally not a bad choise buying it 2nd hand.....because I think it is very expensive buying it new... I found mine with 6.000kms (9 months old) for 2.500 euros less than the new one...

+1 on that.

I spent the first couple of weeks either trying to headbutt the screen when closing the throttle or flinging my head back like runaway CBter when i opening it up from low revs. Not a problem now I've got used to the small movement needed on t'gas.

Regarding leaning it in the wet at low speed, although I disliked the Battleprongs, you can still push the bike well over at low speed...further than you realise at first. It does feel rather like you're going to fall off a pair of stilts initially.....

There's a picture on here somewhere courtesy of Micky, which shows the sides of his centrestand well and truly ground down......:thumb

1200 to 800

Went from a 12 to an 8
no regrets whatsoever although the BMW tall screen and the Touratech seat are a must have!
