I took six trains one Sunday to get my new to me Mercedes GL, five and a half hours there, three hours back home, fourth time I’ve done similar for the right vehicle. Didn’t go well when I flew Southampton to Newcastle, bought a Tiger 955 which went bang at Sheffield on the way home, four hour wait for breakdown, got home at five am instead of them o’clock. Hated that Triumph, Three Legged Cross were superb, fixed it, valeted it, made it look like new to try and make me love it, still hated it (worst turning circle I’ve ever seen on a bike), because it looked amazing it sold pretty quick on eBay.

Indeed, I simply don’t understand it.

People posting for postings sake.

Anyway I love my Rocket, was worried it would be too similar to my bobber, it’s not :)

The engine feels like it could pull tree stumps out 👍🏽

There's a phrase I've not seen very often.

The lovely Mrs Derek drove me the half hour drive to Dorchester South station. Train to Waterloo, tube to Kings Cross, train to North Allerton. Met there by the seller who drove me to see the bike. A quick look, a quick haggle, a handshake and the deal was done. Ride to Nottingham for an overnight, then Nottingham to West Bay. 330 miles in total in Storm Amy. It was the bike I wanted at a decent price, so worth the hassle. Had it been further away, my ride home would have taken longer. It's a Pan European ST1300. Built to do distance work. Sadly, it's just too heavy for me and will have to go once I can be arsed to tidy it up. It's just cosmetic but it's bloody cold, wet and windy, so it'll have to wait.

And if you think that 330 miles is too far, Hatcho came from outside Dublin to buy my GS.

Exactly. If it’s right, it’s close enough.

IOIWC’ers should be executed.

I could practically hear the salt eating her last night so as much as I hate cleaning bikes ….

I cleaned her, and I do likey a lot

I've had 2 longer distance trips for bikes

First one I got a lift to town & jumped on a bus to the airport where I boarded a flight to Edinburgh where, after an overnight, I bought a car which I drove to Penrith where I bought an R90S. I then continued towards Holyhead where, after an overnight, I got a ferry back to the Emerald Isle. A bike mover picked the bike up the following week & delivered it to me in time for Christmas

Second one, an R80GS, I followed the pattern of the first but flew to Newcastle instead where the late Petcul collected me & brought me to see the bike which belonged to a friend of his. Bike bought & immediately moved to Peter's house where his wife Sandy fed me like a king before giving me a bed for the night. The following morning Peter & I rode to Cairnryan for a ferry to Belfast where we parted company as he was going to see relatives while I headed 100 miles towards home

My final airhead, an R75/5 which belonged to a friend of Cortina's, was bought north of Belfast in 2 round trips of 300 miles each. I rode north to meet Cortina who guided me to the bike's location. After checking out the bike I did a deal to buy to buy it & returned home. The following weekend I drove north with a trailer & dragged the bike home.

If I particularly want a specific bike I don't see it's location as being a problem, unless of course it's in Australia or something :D

Good on you.

It’s part of the adventure…..

If on arrival the bikes not right, head back via a museum or whatever.

Every time I’ve travelled, usually to private sakes, the bike and person has been spot on.

Nice bike.

If it was only closer I might have purchased it.

Ain’t such a daft statement if you’re not that bothered.
My Rocket 3R came from Preston.

There was no way I was going by public transport to go and look at it.

I need to try one of these sometime, looks big enough to have it's own postcode :) Happy new bike day mate :)

Hah yes it straddles DE and NG 👍🏽

The TQ is ridiculous, 2nd gear idle, open fully and the horizon accelerates towards you.

At 70 mph it’s doing 2100rpm
