I think I know which mods but who from?

Everything was on pause for a while until I'd sourced another GS (long story) but, having done so, I'm back in business :).

I'm in contact with Les. Thanks all for your help.

I'm often passing through your way RichGSer as a lot of my family live in Hastings. Nice roads round there.

  1. Engine Bars - I'm thinking of SW Motech from Nippy Norman.
  2. Headlight/Radiator Guard
  3. Meta Alarm - no brainer, I have one on each of my other bikes and have had no problems at all.
  4. Lights - I'm sure I read somewhere that the GS lights weren't that brilliant (pun intended!). If true, I need to do something about them. Bulbs? Replacements?
  5. Lower Rider Pegs - Migsel
  6. Mount for Zumo - Migsel? Touratech?
  7. Panniers - the BMW panniers we have are too small so I'm thinking of some of those cavernous metal ones.
  8. Tank Bag - Bagster/Bagalux?
  9. Top Box - Does something fit on there as it is or do I need a rack? If I do, whose?
Quick update for anyone who's interested.

I had to buy another bike. Long story but I now temporarily have two and waiting to buy the second pushed my preparation back further than I'd have liked. The second one, a nice bike that I bought here from Beemer, came fitted with light and radiator guards and Hepco and Becker engine bars so they were sorted. I've fitted the Migsel lower footpegs which helps my knee and SatNav mount (still have to wire that in) - nicely made as usual. I also bought some Touratech neoprene fork protectors.

The Caja Sahel panniers have just arrived. I really like these - nice and solid - but Philip didn't have a top box available in time so we'll be using the Givi Maxia that came with the bike. The HID arrived from Les this morning, Bonnie very kindly lent me a Bagster harness as I couldn't get one in time and the Meta alarm is being fitted tomorrow.

Phew! I think that's me just about done and we're nearly ready to go. All we have to do now is figure out exactly where we are going.

Thanks all for your help.

+1 on the standard lamps as spares for the HID's. You just unplug the original power feed from he ballast and re-connect it to the standard lamp if necessary.

It almost certainly won't be needed but it keeps you legal in Europe.

A spare burner from Les was only £20 so I bought one.

The second bike I bought has an Adventure screen on it and I found I got more buffeting from that than the standard screen on the first one for some reason. I put a Tobinator on it earlier today to try to combat that.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet but, because I'm under-tall (5'9"), when I tried the suggested initial setting I was looking through a distorted screen rather than over it. To get the screen to a position where I could see over it I have the Tobinator virtually flat which leaves quite a large gap at the front between the screen and the 'silver' cover.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow if that's going to be an issue but I'm wondering whether I'm too short for a Tobinator and should have gone for a Vario screen.

Kevin (wondering what 'Canectomised, Steptoe H/P'd, Wilbered' means)

It's a very nice bike thanks and came complete with engine bars so I didn't need to buy any. Thanks again for pointing me in its direction :).

[Looks at page] Hmmm, tank and body protection bars...are they worth having?

Kevin (who is sure he's going to fall off it on some gravel road somewhere!)

The Tobinator worked exactly as advertised. Pity I over-tightened the screen bolts though as the 'starring' on the screen around the bolt doesn't do much for the aesthetics :augie.
