And before any one starts, I dont care the leaves need picking up, or the land rover is dirty (its meant to be), or the fence that needs mending or the grass is crap or anything else in the piccies. I rather spend my free time riding the bike. :dabone

Approx 4 weeks ago I got bored, went out to wash the bike (1st time in a year and a half, and no Im not kidding). I thought while Im cleaning it, I would sort out some of the corrosion on the fork brace/ fork stantions ect.

This is what the bike looked like when I bought it (see nice and shiny, it didnt look like that when I started to clean it, didnt actually take any photos before I started - should have):

I got carried away and before I knew it (and about £80 in paint primer ect), it looked like this:

The addition of 2 wheel humvee stickers made a big difference:

I always fancied some light gaurds on it, but wasnt prepared to pay £80 for something which I am informed isnt as secure as they could be, so I made a set for the total proce of not very much:

I am very pleased with the outcome, I hated yellow. Dont tell Mr Ifan (it was his bike to start with). The rest of the bike never did get cleaned the wheels are filthy. :clap

Great Job. :thumb
The colour really suits the GS. Mine is yellow and I thought that was the best colour but seeing what you've done to yours is giving me second thoughts.

You'd better watch what you put on here or you might find yourself taking orders for paint jobs. :D

Adventure beak

Forgot to ask. Where can you get the plastic adventure beak from? Do you have to buy it from BMW or is there a cheaper online source.
Cheers.

You get them from your BMW dealer. The whole lot, including nuts, bolts etc. should be less than £30.

Mine was £28 or so, but a recent thread suggested that your local dealer will sell them for around £34.

Such is the price of popularity!

Well spotted, only its the drive thats on a slant, so its actually the fence, ha

The beak extender was bought from a dealer, it was £35 + postage, which I thought was very cheap for a BMW genuine part I was expecting a rediculously high price. Not as cheap as £28 tho'.

Had mine fitted when i bought my GS in October from SPC, cost just under £35 fitted

Good paint job - now what colour shall i change my yellow GS to ........

This is probably a really stupid question but here goes

From the picture of the beak and the fact that you get nuts/bolts with the adventure beak I'm guessing that it is fixed by drilling holes into the original?

So once its on there is no going back.

Nothing stopping yer from using something like silicone or Velcro patches....

(And with Velcro patches, you can remove it when parked, and walk around with it in yer pocket... :D :D )

OK. I knew it was a stupid question. :nenau

Got me thinking though, do you think I should use clear or white silicone. And before you say anything, of course I'll be using the bathroom, anti-fungel product. I'm not a complete numpty. :D

Are there any advantages in retrofitting the adventure beak, apart from looks, which is a matter of personal taste.

Don't forget, you need a new tax disc on your landy at the end of Feb :)

The wealth of knowledge on this site is truly unbelievable - even i dont know when my tax is due without going to have a look at it.

Dont suppose you know what the next weeks lottery numbers are? :thumb

Ive had Land Rovers for about 20 years now. Love 'em, although I had a Disco for a short time and i wasnt impressed with that, so i went back to defenders. Cheap to run, hold their value, very easy to mend, spares are very cheap, top car.

unfoturnatley I dont actually know. The oil filler cap was on the bike when I bought it.

Its well made, i think its a BMW one -only I have nothing to compare it with.

If want I can take some pictures of it tomorrow.

Not to worry thanks - I can make it out from the expanded pix I think - looks like a security idea, bit like security wheel nuts - I'm guessing that there's a pin tool to open/close it?

It's never happened, but I'm always thinking that it's asking for some "youth" to fill her up with somthing nasty when you leave it parked with the standard cap on :nono .

Thats exactely what it is. There is a small 'C' spanner type of arrangment (fits on the key ring0 with two pin son it that insert into the top of the plug. It turns about 90 degrees and then lifts out.

To be honest if you really tried I think you could probably undo it with the your fingers.

Aaah shame - better to go with the alternative security plan then - the 300 ft/lbs spring fitting that blows their heads off if they lean over and try to open it ;)
