Had some fun on the new GSA and RT today.

Loved both but the new GSA wins it for me.

Concerned over a weird engine noise and the screen needs a bit of something. Will find out soon if the wallet comes out.

Watching that the RT looked the more accomplished bike

Pity more people don't pick it, as they are more worried about the image than what the bike can do for them

It's an old man's bike and being i'm still young I not interested!!! Bring it on jb!!!

Sadly the RT isn't but too many think it is, when in fact for road use they'd be better off with the RT

To be fair I've never ridden one so can't really slate it! It just comes across as the old bmw club members bike for some reason.

Try one it isn't
For covering ground quickly they are amazing and handle really well, far better than a GS on the road - plus they are far better equipped for less money too

If looking for a bike to to from A to E across France into the Alps and back to home, via a mixture of 'Great roads, mate', I would certainly look at the 1200 RT, ahead of the GS.

It has enough luggage carrying ability, a decent sized tank, good ergonomics, is well integrated as a package and not least, appears to go and handle well enough. In short, it seems to know what it is it's trying to be and trying to do. The new GS's appear to be not so sure, stuck somewhere between being an outright (but upright) sports bike and a goat track basher.

Comments ?

1. If you were in fact signalling at the point you indicated in the film then the car driver obviously assumed you were turning left at the exit he/she pulled out of (wrongly obviously).

2. Yet again BuMW provide a bloody plank of a seat on a GSA. 400 mile tank range with only an hours comfortability. Sergeant/Corbin et al rubbing their hands together and grinning like Cheshire cats again.

3. How can they get the screen so wrong on the GSA yet so right on the RT?

So having forked out your £15-17K on a new GSA you need to go straight out and spend a few more hundred quid to make it comfortable enough to ride on ?

Sickener isn't it

A real piss boiler

You don't spend £16k on a car & immediately replace the seats or fit a new windscreen :(

I took a gsa out yesterday and the screen was flexing all over the place and the wind blast was worse than my gs lc. Other than that I liked it.

No jb I don't need the bigger tank or ride height only had my lc a year and it's not one with the dodgy clutch and gearbox, so will hold off for another year.

Spent 5 hours on the new GSA last Wednesday, probably 4 and a half hours riding. Found the seat as comfortable as my Corbin.

Had no problem with the screen either :)

How tall are you Paul?

The seat thing is a bit odd. I appreciate lots find it ok but there are many who find it unbearingly uncomfortable. I fit into the latter category :D

5'10" or 5'11" depending which leg I stand on.

Inside leg 30" or 31" see above :D

80kg :thumb2

That 3-4" makes all the difference :)

Watching that vid, with the same rider it was glaringly obvious from the camera how appalling (for him) the GSA screen was in direct comparison to the RT screen

Overall he looked far more comfortable & happy on the RT - shame he couldn't bring himself to own one

If the new GSA seats are like the Hexheads, there will be plenty on both sides of the comfy fence.

When we do the Alaska trips, we cover 8500 miles in 4 weeks so it's a brutal test of comfiness and I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the comfort factor. It either suits you or not but I have to say that the majority of people who have the standard seats have little or no problems whatsoever so you have to say that that the factory has the design about right for most people. A lot of it is riding position so fiddling around with the seat height and bar position will help the matter but a lot of people expect it to be spot on straight out of the crate.

If everyone was the same height and weight, I'm sure the perfect seat would be easily designed but whilst the human race is so diverse, It's going to be next to impossible to get it right.

Same with the screen. How can the manufacturer be expected to cater for everyone? I imagine it's designed around the average weight and height for men whatever that may be.
