A bikers bike ..... (Can I come in .... ??!)

congrats on your new bike , I still have a tinted touring screen and puig blade for sale if your interested ;)

.... Having a 330 myself I reckon it's not that the WC is not like the car it's the fact that it's become like the car which is a turn off.

The 330 is a great tool for getting a job done on today's roads, it's an efficient machine that has a fair degree of involvement.

When I rode the WC I came away thinking this is just like my car and if I had to get stuff done day after day and have the occasional fun bits thrown in you know the WC will deliver and Id like the bike for doing that.

I like my car but I want to love my bike because with a bike you can go about your travels at a different pace to a car you can chose to make little overtakes here and there, you can make a roundabout fun even when you are just going with the flow by the way you drop it in and lift it out and taking the backroad which will take you longer makes sense because you know you can make it fun

To love a bike it's got to do something different to just being effective, it's got to have a few quirks that make taking that back road even more intresting - I like my TC because of the way it parrp parrps through the gears even though I know a WC with quick shifter is more efficient at changing gear

The KTM sounds more intresting but that said your WC is a well set up bike so I read your post as another example of the indulgence to find a reason to buy something new that we all like to do and long may that continue because it's what makes owning bikes intresting :D

welcome to the orange side.

at least you need a torx driver to get the clocks off :)

I love my BMW car (a 5 series GT) and like my GS (2012 TC Triple Black). I do not desire to ride the bike and perhaps a change to a KTM or Ducati would light a spark - but where the bike excels is the no fuss ride it gives (and this is where BMW have failed imo with the WC in trying to make it more sporty). In my ideal garage would be a TC GS for how a motorcycle can handle every day shite thrown at it (touring for instance) and a 1190 for hooning around on.

And then they bring out the 1290 SA ...........

Yes, even further from what was started with the 950 ADV :blast:blast:blast

the backlash begins.

although i do agree.

Agreed...............but hey, KTM want a slice of the GS action (money) and what better way to appeal to the WC masses than a bike with all the bells and whistles and farkles. The 1190 is part way there as well I suppose but still, IMHO, retains some of that 950/990 DNA (or is that just wishful thinking on my behalf?).

The 1290 will still be a nicer bike than a bloated WC GSA though and if it keeps yer typical WC owner away from the 1190's all the better :D

Well done Giles, enjoy your new toy......I'll book my 'test ride' on it for Spring 2015......:green gri

Soooooooo ......

Out on the road, yep we've given it a spank. Yep I know, it's juvenile but

Here's a bike that wheelies in third off roundabouts .

but regularly pin the gas as hard as I can on the wet shiny bitumen surface.

80mph, coming into a roundabout,

And presumably if whilst on duty officer, you observed a "real biker" riding in a similar manner, you would condone and indeed applaud their Roadcraft skills?

It may harm your defence etc.....more likely me thinks

Look out, forum Police

Ahhh welll ..... :D

All of this testing was on the standard, and no I've not ridden the R !!!!!!!

But I'm confident in my choice. I expect the steering to be only marginally slower, and even then only when the speed is up. I do miss off roading, I sold my WR a couple of years ago and although I keep my hand in at work, am itching to get back to it. So I'm really up for some simple trails, tent, and a few overnighters somewhere. (I might have to tap up Mellors for a welsh trail riding weekend ... !!)

Bit of a gamble I know, but confident it'll be fine ... :thumb2

You are right to be confident, the R having good WP forks gives loads of feedback and the Conti's give superb grip, the combination is far better imo than the GS/GSA, I like bikes for how they feel underneath you and this KTM is simply superb. Hope you like it as much as I do:thumb

Now look Wreford ..... :D

I am not some petulant spoilt brat that needs indulging!!

If I'm honest, BM have slightly shot themselves in the foot. Two months ago my clocks were nicked, and the info I'm getting is that I won't get a set until end of this month. Three months!!!!!!

Do they want to keep their customers or not?! If the problem had been resolved early on, I wouldn't have been playing on demo bikes in another dealership. But by sniffing around and just riding something on a whimsy, (as you should people .... :rob keep your hand in and test ride stuff ....) I've come away intrigued and booking a second test ride. And the end result of that was .... 'wow, that is a great bike and I love riding it...'
Recognising that my own GS is very capable but a bit of a fridge (does what it's meant to but has very little character), the fact that this is such a breath of fresh air, and the fact that BM haven't got a set of clocks available for three months .... I'm very happy to jump ship.

:thumb

Regarding the clocks wtf is the delay are bikes still be produced on the production line if they are surely clocks are available :nenau in which case are they just willing to piss off someone who has already purchased a bike to allow them to take orders for more sales. Not great after sales support :blast
