Ideal gear change RPM?

When commuting I tend to 'short shift' at about 4-5K unless gunning for a gap. If I'm out with mates or on a mission I use the full throttle and rev range but even then I change up at about 7K. I don't think I have ever hit the rev limiter unless in false neutral

Give the guy a break, he'll probably never want to post again.

Never again

The question was quite innocent - on my previous bike (650GS) I had the gear changes off to a T, the 1200GS is like starting all over again!

I think I'll use the force for gear changes...

You are correct cusi, we are a cruel lot here, sorry colm, fair question as you're new on the GS. Really it's all about feel, low change in town (4k), gun it a little in the open (6K), change when it sound right.

They are clunky boxes but smoother in higher gears and the faster you are going.

sorry - never meant to upset anyone - it is a bit like the "FORCE" You just know when it is right to change. I guess it is about being at one with your machine - treat it right and it will be good forever.
