Idle problem

(1150gs 2001 80000 miles) , Hi I can't get the bike to idle without cutting out, only way I can is to wind out the LH TB cable to 1800 rpm, otherwise cuts out, iv cleaned both BBS although RH one soots up after a ride , valves done , new plugs.
Also quite hard to start 7 or 8 cranks from cold ok when warm.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Ps, If I had an air leak would idle go up or down

An air leak will make it idle higher on that side. Things to check:
- Right hand cable end fully seated in the throttle body (someone will be along with the picture soon)
- O ring may have come apart in one of the joints between inlet tubes and throttle bodies. These are hidden so not obvious when they separate
- Old cables can fray inside the splitter box and not fully return to the correct position. Corrosion can have a similar impact.

Ps, why would one BBS get black whilst the other is ok

Is there any difference between the spark plugs ? Is one blacker/sootier than the other

No plugs look same, even with all the backfires,

I had bothe throttle body's off today cleaned and inspected for signs of leaks, can't see any o rings though where are they

If you can’t find them, that might be the problem. Part #11 on the image below seals the joint between the inlet tube from the airbox to the TB. I had difficulty balancing mine and found that one had snapped so was leaking slightly.

with the engine running , spray brake cleaner over the inlet side .
an air leak will suck in the brake cleaner and make it rev up or die .

Common fault
Nearly always the RH inlet
Replace mine before they become a problem
Brake cleaner test shows the minutest air leak

Yes part number 10 still attached, I have sprayed around the TB but hard to tell because I'd doesn't idle so I'm reving it so it doesn't cut out, I didn't be removed part number 4 is that what leaks

Took the manifolds of today they both have liquid gasket on them , is this normal or should it be a flush fit,

That shouldn’t be there
But 2 new ones from BMW
